Why do they skip 24mm and put a 26mm in the set. I have never used a 26mm before.

I am disappointed in ICON for this. Maybe because all the hype but I do use 24mm a lot and there is absolutely no reason to buy an impact set for the money that skips sizes. I thought they were listening to customers about skipping sizes on their "professional" line

I got a set of the anti-slip long metric wrenches from 12mm to 20mm and got the 21mm to 24mm which doesnt have that notch.

I love them all worth the money in my opinion.

Why don't you contact them and let them know how you feel. If enough people contact them maybe they'll change their minds and start producing a set without skips.

There are about 800 other companies that sell kits that know to include a 24mm... I (and many others probably agree) don't feel the need to put forth that effort when I can just buy from someone else. 24mm being a common size is not exactly an industry secret.

I fail to understand why HF thinks these will sell at a $50 premium to their own Pittsburgh brand impact sockets. They both have a lifetime warranty. The $2 blow molded case that comes with the Icon set? The Icon name? :spit:

They were forged with elf’s tears of Rivendell.

3/8 drive deep etorx might interest me. Thing is there's a pittsburgh version for $14. Maybe I'll have to check out both. 3/8 drive, deep, e-torx sockets aren't super common.

My thoughts as well.

They could have offered complete no skip sets like Sunex and Gearwrench. Then you could rationalize the higher prices.

How are these a good value? Our HF doesn’t carry most of them so even if I got them and needed to warranty them I have to drive like 30 miles to the next HF.

I mean I can just get these shipped if that’s the case. https://www.sears.com/craftsman-23-...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Then there’s the perennial bit set.

The Icon deep extorx set might be useful if I can get one, the rest of the stuff is just too expensive and hard to come by.

They are good value in a sense that majority of people are close to a harbor freight can exchange these rather quickly if something does fail. There are outlier's sure as you are one of then unfortunately.

I live about 30 minutes from one. Sure it's not ideal but at least I can get that set replaced no questions. Just bring the set in boom. No receipt needed. Replaced no problem.

Try doing that on Amazon. You pay higher prices because it's a matter of now not later

Especially compounded when Harbor Freight offers zero open stock to purchase individual sizes :wtf:

This is really something they could move into. This was a big advantage when there were hundreds of Sears, if you needed an oddball size, lost a socket and already had a whole set you could just grab the one. Not that 24mm is in anyway odd.

They don’t have to carry things for all the lines like regular Pittsburgh and Icon just line of open stock.

Are they worried about theft? I mean sockets are cheap enough from China that they surely would make enough profit to outweigh that aspect.

Or is it because of the time that would be required to check on hands and order it?

I have a an old NAPA 1/2” deep Metric/SAE Impact set that goes ... 22, 26, 27 mm. They are rebranded Sunex. I could never figure out why they put a 26 in there rather than a 24.

My guess here is that Harbor Freight/ICON is copying Sunex on their impact sockets.

I think you have to tell the guys over in Taiwan exactly what you want.

My guess 26mm is used maybe on drain plugs in Asian vehicles. HF took a Snap-on and Mac impact socket over to Taiwan and told them to combine the two and have the upside markings for the Hansen trays. HF forgot to tell them what sizes to make in the sets. Hansen trays dont have a spot for 26mm.

Local tool importer Jet has this set with 24mm. Also they have a complete set and a large size set along with open stock

Grey Pneumatic along with Sunex dont have 24mm in their smaller sets.

Impact socket size offerings always seem to be a mystery. The common store bought sets always leave something out that most people could use. By the time you purchase individual skips, it often makes sense to just buy a more complete set elsewhere. If HF would release a no-skip metric set in both shallow and deep, I'd bet they would sell the **** out of them if the price was competitive with other no-skip sets.

This set from tractor supply is the only set I've seen from a brick & mortar that has no skips: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...-drive-impact-socket-set-adm416r?cm_vc=-10005 Those are not stamped and I'm 99% certain without even looking at them that they're not shallow broached, but for the price, it's still hard to beat them for a no skip set you can buy in person with all the common sizes included. Oddly enough JobSmart splits their sort of equivalent shallow set into both metric + sae and skips 15, 16, and 18mm in the metric.
