Well done to harbor freight, yet another brand to choose when you want quality tools at affordable prices.

Always a laugh when the "USA Only!" dreamers turn up, spouting how its all terrible and how these tools will lead to endless job losses, after all harbor fright only employ 17,000 people (in the US). Who needs those jobs?

What was the longest 1/2 ratchet you saw at the booth?

They are way over priced and made in China. That is going to be the problem with that customer base. Their market is people expect to throw it away and it works for 1 time use.

Lot of other options out there and they will drop it leaving people with a bunch of over priced CHINA scrap metal.

there you go again spouting off your ********. do you even read any of these threads? op clearly stated they are Taiwan made, and yes, it's different than China.

and hgow do you figure they are way over priced? there were no prices listed.

and with your hatred for everything China, what's up with your user name?

I see this as filling the void left by Sears/Craftsman. HF is being strategic with this move. I mean they have about 800 locations in the U.S and Sears now has only about 500. So the model of lifetime warranty and driving to your local store to get something 7 days a week is going to appeal to a lot of people.

Craftsman is going to make a comeback it still has a BIG market despite the route it took the past 10+ years.

There is plenty of clones of China knock offs and they come and go. Really the market is awash in impostors and the price range is of USA tools.

Have you looked at the new craftsman toolboxes? Talk about Chinese garbage knockoffs...

The new ones are “Made In the USA with global materials”. I own two of them purchased from Lowe’s and they are very nice. I have some of the drawers weighted down and they’re holding up fine. Same with my old Craftsman Premium chest I bought at Sears in 2013. There’s nothing wrong them at all.

I checked them out and I thought they were really flimsy and poorly built. Made me confirm my decision to get the US General.

But if you're happy with them then

Icon stuff looks pretty good. HF warranty is pretty straight forward. I’m sick of paying premium price for Snap-on tools and getting bs warranty issue. Snap-On expects you to have Receipts from 22-30 years ago. I don’t remember having one tool swap issue from HF that carry a life time warrant.

That is some straight up horse doodoo. I have NEVER heard of needing a receipt to warranty a snapon hand tool.

I’m sure Snap-On fan boys will come and defend them. I called and complained about the issue and nothing was resolved.

I usually have a truck guy so no worries there. But one time we were without a snapon truck due to a changeover and needed a socket warranted. Called the 800 number and they sent me a new one but never requested the broken tool or gave me a way to return it.

This whole thing sounds really fishy because of your past history of issues with Snap On. That letter doesn't even look like an official Snap On document, nor has the customer service department (over the phone or in writing) ever given me any indication that they were going to mail me a letter. I've even told them before about stuff that was my fathers and they said that doesn't matter at all.

Wow. The negative publicity in that one letter is much more expensive then just replacing the darn tools.

It's because you tried to swap out several tools at once. Next time try one at a time. I doubt they'll require a receipt for one single tool. They get a lot of "shady" characters that try to warranty large catches of tools. The world is not full of honest people and Snap-on doesn't know who you are without a receipt.

Agreed! You will be to just go out and buy it when you need it any time or day of the week and get good quality.

This is my 2nd issue I have had with Snap-On warranty exchange mail in service. Believe what you want but that’s the letter I got back with my tools that they rejected.

This.

IMSTuner, you started two other threads about sending tools to Snap-On for RMA, and another where it looks like you have your dad's old snap-on tool collection from back in the day.

I would guess that they simply think you're swapping out your flee market hauls for new stuff.

I own a lot of snap-on stuff and no longer turn wrenches. If I need something warrantied I get into touch with my old dealer. If there comes a time when he's no longer around I would talk to corporate but I think I have warrantied 3 items in 8 yrs or so. Bulk warranty claims raise flags.

Back on topic: Icon tools should be interesting. If they can provide Carlyle level quality they are set. I love Carlyle tools but dealing with my local Napa is painful.

Wrong. I suddenly feel a lot better about paying the Snap On premium knowing that the guys in the warranty dept. screen out jokers trying to refresh old/inherited/garagesale tools. It surely helps keep the prices lower. Bravo Snap On Warranty Dept Man, you’re todays American Hero.

That letter has been SOP for about 8-9 years now. You NEED to open an RMA with customer service (easiest over the phone). Once that's done they either mail you out replacements or issue a call tag (prepaid). Then you can mail them in, no receipts required. If you just try to mail things in you must require proof of purchase.

Maybe they saw this post:
Scored a set of used Flare Nut Snap-On wrench for 70

image1_zpsgvr2k3qf.jpeg
Where you stated you bought the entire set used for $70, which contains an RXFMS1012B, one of the part numbers on your warranty denial sheet.

^^ :)

My point exactly. I shouldnt have to pay a premium on my SO bought new, so jokers can refresh their craigslist scores via warranty.

One on the right is from the set I scored and the one on the left was the one I’m warrantying for my father.

Why not? Lifetime warranty means lifetime warranty. Not limited to original purchase. That would be a joke of a warranty.

if there is something special or a Icon tool that stands out from the competition, I would buy it sooner than later. My experience is that big chain "professional, premium" tool lines dont last long or change design every few years.

Up here, Canadian Tire went from Mastercraft Professional to Mastercraft Maximum to just Maximum in a period of 10 years. The Mastercraft Maximum combination wrenches made around 2010 to 2013 were one of the better Snap-on copy's out there.

I assume the same thing happened with Craftsman Professional and Craftsman Industrial. Even if Sears didnt have financial problems and Craftsman wasn't sold, the tools would still get discontinued or changed

Sir, you are not being honest.

The one on the list is a RXFMS1012B,and in your picture the one you said you tried to warranty is a RXFMS1012A.

Maybe you have made a mistake and accidentally sent in the wrong tool, or maybe you posted a picture of the other wrench from your father.

You could clarify and I will quickly retract my insinuation that you are a flaming trouser wearing teller of tall tales.

When I called in Snap-On rep said the RXFMS1012A part number has been replaced by RXFMS1012B and he is the one that put that part number in the RMA. He did it for one other item on that list as well. If you look at your old flare nut wrench set all of them end in A and they are all longer in length.

I admire you for being calm and collected in the face of all these inflammatory and accusatory remarks. Incredible.

I have some Craftsman gear, ratchets, sockets, screwdrivers, ect which were my first tools as a teenager. Later, I bought some Snap On gear, a good box, impact sockets, wrenches ect from my early days turning wrenches back in the 90s. Today I have a mix of the brands I mentioned plus whatever I've found at yardsales. I love my Snap On stuff, but I just recently bought a brand new set of Instinct Soft Handles still in the packaging off of eBay. It wasn't until I received the set that I noticed one of the drivers has some slight rust pitting around the base of the shaft where it enters the handle. I contacted Snap On with pictures and was denied warranty due to the fact I didnt buy from an approved dealer apparently. Surprising. One can argue that perhaps these sat on a shelf, but to my thinking, the superior polish and plating of Snap On was always one of the competitive advantages. I will no longer factor in Snap On's warranty when making a purchase decision. You guys that buy off the truck may see it differently.

I see this backlash happen a lot when a member complains/ mishap about Snap-On on here.

Older Snap-on chrome plate was better and they may have changed there plating process.
