Icon tools on ebay

I've wanted 1/4 drive flex head ratchet after using my buddy, who is pro, snap ratchet. Then I looked at price. I am not a pro, so not getting the use. Maybe worth it. But I also question just buy back up cheap ratchet, I do think years ago sizes may have been questionable on cheap stuff.

I was using 1/4 wench on brake line bleeder, and it was slipping. Couldn't find my 5 sided wrench. Then I realized this wrench was from when I was a kid, and grabbed another, and it worked. I did buy a 6 sided wrench for cracking it to be safe.

Depends on what you buy. Ratcheting wrenches probably nothing better for the money. Everything else so so

I have a lot of Icon stuff and I like them. In general, i see it as a place to get solid midrange Taiwanese tools with an easy lifetime warranty. Their main competitors I see are Tekton, GW, and Capri and none of those are available in stores. Well, not extensively. For me it was a matter of buying in person at the HF 5 minutes from me or buying sight unseen online, and then having to deal with online returns, warranty claims, etc.

I wish I had more options but I’m not keen on buying hand tools online. The only other tools I can buy in a store are Craftsman or Carlyle. Of those three, Icon is the best choice for me.

That is sorta what he said about his snap on. I used it, liked, but not sure I am good enough to know. I am not using it all day either. I am not disagreeing they are probably the best, I am just not good enough to care.

I went to HF to buy the little ratchet/screwdriver thing ($40). There was a single, empty box on the hook. I told the cashier looks like someone grabbed the tool and left the box. They said, “Nope. We have 10 in the back. Let me grab one for you.”

I presume they are a scammer because shortly after paying for my item I saw they posted a few more similar items for sale. How does this pay out for them, anyways? Are they hoping buyers won’t file a claim to get their money back?

Anyways, can’t say I don’t deserve it for trying to buy obviously stolen tools. Lesson learned, claim filed, moving on with my life.

Yes. My HF also has staffing issues, so trying to find an employee is a pain in the ***. The couple of ICON items I wanted to try, I convinced myself that it wasn’t worth the hassle.

Home Depot recently began locking up their power tools in cages, which is fine and I don’t blame them one bit. I probably walked the entire perimeter of the store trying to find someone so I could get a new miter saw. I left and went to Lowe’s. I

I assume that almost everything NIB on facebook or ebay is stolen.

I will add that a lot of people try out retail arbitrage aka flipping. Locally I have noticed it with Amazon lightening deals where there are only a small number of items they will sell at a discount. There's a whole subreddit dedicated to it.

My guess is that this is an account take over rather than a change in business practice.
And you're right, it's pretty easy to "claw back" from ebay. Whomever is doing this is counting on some % of those sales to not be disputed or to die during the dispute process. If you ship a box of rocks, it's kinda a hassle to get ebay to do the right thing..

At one time for "known good" sellers ebay would release funds immediately. I don't know if that's an ongoing practice anymore. You'd just drain the account and ebay couldn't claw that money back.

So ebay accounts that have some run time on them with good feedback are valuable for these types of scams. New ebay account where the funds are held for substantial periods, not so much...

I see a lot of HF tools NIB listed on FB Marketplace and even eBay at full retail or more. I can only assume they hope people don’t look at the new price before buying.
