I think it may be an old Rock island; - can anyone confirm, and if so, how old would you guess it is?

The No. in the side is 53-1/2

Hey Outlawmws.....very nice vise there! The only catalog that I have listing a Hollands of that type shows a Model 53 at 4 1/2" ......and a Model 54 at 5". What is the jaw width on that old beast?

They claimed it was 4-1/2" It was on auction and with buyer's premium fees and sales tax's, it sold (to someone else..) for about $100.. Over the top to me...

I really like the thing though, it's like a home owner's vise that grew up with that fairly massive anvil on the back.

Just for academic purposes, how old is the catalog?
