There is a vise for sale that has no name or brand. The owner has this picture. It is supposed to have 6 in jaw with a sticker "unbreakable steel construction". I am thinking it is probably some cheap chinese made, but I am no expert here.

The owner is asking for $30. Would this be a fair price?

Any comments will be helpful. Thanks!!

If its a genuine steel vice, it may well be very close to unbreakable. If its six inch it is a double bargain in my opinion.
Maybe it could be bent with a big sledge hammer. If the jaws align and it opens and closes OK , I would take the punt.

Steel vices are great. I have a Russian made 4" steel vice and it is built like a brick toilet and has done Trojan service. You need more than one vice.

Looking at it the other way ,some idiot manufacturer might not be able to tell cast iron from steel. If you can file an inconspicuous place and if the filing dust stains your fingers black ,it is certainly cast iron.
If it is steel you can take a small chisel and a hammer and you can cut a small curl off an edge - again underneath out of sight.

That's an odd Amazon listing. The photo and description don't match the title.

Yes you're right.
Just Google Neiko 6 vise. Amazon seems to be having a brain fart with this vise listing. If you want an all steel vise with lifetime warranty. Look up Yost FSV vises. Very high review ratings of being unbreakable.

I have one of these the 6 inch for years now. Was around $75 at the time Central Tractor. Yost also markets these all steel vises. There was an older thread questioning the COO of some these and at that time Yost confirmed to me the ones they market are Taiwan COO still and mine is.

906AS

The current 936-AS is virtually the same thing though it weighs a few lbs than the original 906

You can find them on Amazon, HD and the Yost web page, along with some other places

Around $100 new

There is also a 4", 5" and 8" versions around I think.

The photo in the earlier link for Neiko looks to be the same vise but the write up is for something entirely different as is the price.

Many also confuse these with a similar looking Tekton vises which are China

I posted a photo of mine in another thread before Here is a link to that
