It may be a hodge podge of pieces of a small mill that was missing some pieces. The nut on the bottom to raise the table, the mismatched handwheels seem to suggest that, but the belt guard (?) and the dovetail spine seem to suggest manufactured part.

It may have been something like a small keyway cutting machine or some such.

-There was a movement several decades ago for things produced at the cottage industry level, possibly because the war effort commanded the production of so many larger factories. This movement was also in the UK for many years. A number of small machines were made by companies that disappeared quickly and there was even a company that sold plans/drawings to cast and machine your own mill for the average homeowner. I don't recognize the make but this could have been an orphaned base cobbled together from other machines. It may be a bit crude looking but credit goes to your father for making something that works while on a budget.

Thanks very much for the compliments, though I guarantee he didn't make this. He likely got it at a garage sale! He had an old cataract size lathe that he might have gotten at the same time, and I do remember it but haven't been able to ID it either and is long gone.

If only I could ask him.
