Put an ad on Craigslist for a US made vise, I've gotten a pretty decent response, couple leads but nothing solid yet.

This one has come in, no info other then 111056 and Made in USA stamped on it, according to the seller. Hard to say what it is, I'm no vice expert, looks 50s/60s to me if I had to guess. It's not as large as what I'd like, but I HATE the chinese wilton I have now so this would be a good "small" vise to replace it. Seller also said it's 6.25" jaws.

Looks like the pipe jaws may be removable, they look machined versus cast. May have an end broken off the static jaw too.

Any ideas on ID?

Reed? Noticed this has the same recess inset on the rear where a data plate would have gone, also the rear portion of the body has the somewhat angular shape that looks the same? Swivel looks identical as well, and hard to be positive, but it looks like the slide is "tubular" and not open on the bottom.

Thats an older Wilton 746 made here before Wilton decided not to make them here anymore. Its a good utility vise for the shop and providing this one was not mis used. I never saw that Reed photo before. Note! The right side jaw support is cracked off! Pass on it!

If you don't mind a drive to Va Beach there's this one. It's been up for a few months. He started at $120 and is down to $50 on the ads from the last month or so.

Why would you pass on it? File the static jaw flat and have a new insert made that's twice as tall. It's held in by face screws anyway. Sure that's not the "stock" configuration, but (as you know) MANY vises don't have a little "support" piece underneath the jaw insert.

If I could get it for $20-$30, I'd bring it home. Especially if it's a 5+ inch jaw.

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't opened the search to VaBeach, but I'd defiitely run over there. Kind of cool that it's a Mercury because I'm currently working on a '63 Mercury....
