I may be way off, but my guess would be that it is a blacksmithing hammer used to drive a hole into the metal

Place it on the heated metal where you want a hole, then hit it with another hammer.

Technically, it's not a hammer at all. Just a blacksmith's punch. The handle is simply to hold it in place on the work while being struck with a blacksmith's hammer.

true true...most B-smiths stuff is designed this way obviously. That would be very impressive to have so much control with the swing to hit dead center on the workpiece everytime. lol.

Thanks everyone- the 3/8 must be the hole size, it is the diameter of the long pointed end. I believe it is Heller, not meller
