I would think so, but I don't have them so it's a guess. A guy I know sent me the pics hoping I'd know what they were and, like most here seem to be, I'm clueless.
My best guess is that they were for removing horse shoes. They do look similar to the ones in the pic you linked to, Dave. I have a buddy who is a farrier, I'll send him a pic, maybe he'll recognize them.
Ok, so I sent the pics to my buddy and he says they look like a hoof tester or could maybe have been used to grab shoes to pull them over and into place.
posibly for installing weather stripping in the trunk of older cars. I have never used them. But have seen where push pins where use to hold the the rubber in place.
Dental pliers. I swear the last time the dentist pulled a tooth they were almost that size. He planted both feet on the chair and yanked like hell!!!!!
Look at the alloy artifacts Herbrand specialty plier page. There are 3 very similar pliers to compare with what the OP has.
Figure 170 is a picture of a pair of Herbrand 158 fender-bolt specialty pliers. They look almost the same but the center plier arm is more knife edged instead of blunt or flat.
Figure 177 is a picture of Herbrand battery terminal pliers. They look close, but the double arms are very thin for slipping under the battery terminals. The OP's pliers are not that way.
Figure 185 is a picture of Herbrand brake spring pliers. They look very close but the double arms are more curved on the Herbrand pliers.
Your first picture looks like it says PAT (patent) and a date (1947?) as well after the name Metalser Co. Detroit, but the rest is not part of your close-up pic 3. Does it actually say patent and give a date, and if so knowing the date might help some other people who are better than I am at looking up patents to help figure this out for you.
