One advertised locally for $100, claims it weighs near 100#, but red. Looks like the brother. Had a tag for Mount Tai, so yours a better deal.

Here is mine, with the rotation lock screw, paid even less than yours. But mine has a different tag.

If I needed a vise I would. It is a very functional design.

Mount it very close to the edge of the bench like the current owner did. That way, you can clamp longer items or pipes.

Some people call them Chinese wonder vises, even though there are made in USA versions of it as well.

It’s a Chinese made clone of the original USA Made and designed Sawyer Nutyp vise.
There are now numerous copies of the design, that vary in quality, with almost all the copies being made in China.
The Older Chinese made copies seem to have been faithful copies of the original Sawyer Nutyp design, and seem to be well liked, or at least decently liked by those who have them.
The iron casting are sometimes not found to be perfect when stripped of paint, and routinely have Bondo or similar to smooth the castings, but the original design was made to be made from regular cast iron, so the strength is usually fine for the design.
The better modern versions are the Yost 750DI, and a similar vise from Capri, both of which are Ductile Iron, which would be stronger, and more break resistant, however, a few areas have been simplified on both, and both run $200+ new.
There are regular cast grey iron versions that are cheaper, but certain other areas have usually been cheapened as well, such as cast in place vise jaws, and lighter weight castings.

$50 seems like a fair price for one of the older, “proper”, Chinese versions.

Current versions of this vice are quoted as weighing 50lbs or so...........it seems the early ones are always claimed to be 100lbs, super heavy, and too heavy to lift etc .............so I gather these vices have suffered Chinese shrinkage over the last 30 years...........if you doubt Chinese shrinkage ,import shoes have shrunk by at least three sizes in the last few years........I have long used cheap gardening gloves .the large size fits nicely........not anymore ......large size has shrunk to being impossibly tight.

Fwiw, filler on castings has been done in the U.S. for a long time... it's not just a 'cheap China' thing. Fairly normal.

I have the same Vice. I bought it from the manager of a Woodwards Food
floor. I have had it for nearly 40 years of hard service. The vice I have has no identification marks. It works really well. I think I paid $50.
The manager told me it was addressed to his store with no return address. The manager thought one of his employees was trying to sneak the vice in with a bunch of potatoes. So, he gave me a deal to break the scam.
My daughter, now nearly 41, was a toddler riding in the grocery cart when I got the vice.

Someone can prove me wrong with a scale but until then I'm putting the real weight of those old ones at 70-75 pounds.

I think mine in the shop was bought new in the '70s or '80s by my Granddad. It's had the ever-loving heck beat out of it, and it's still going strong.

While I personally would find it difficult to spend $50 on an imported vise--you're not going to do better. I've found American-made vises to be near-impossible to find locally--I think most got chucked for scrap. The Harbor Freight vises for the price are lighter-duty and smaller.
