ID this Craftsman box

Can anyone ID this Craftsman roller and top box?
I'm thinking early 70's as my dad had one growing up although HE had only the top box and a middle box.....

I don't believe these are ball bearing? sliders.... but they all work good (for my use)

I like the patina... the gray/grey overspray and drippings seem to be coming off easy with an acetone rag....

other than that, I'm just gonna clean it up and fill it up.

It's going in the basement .... so the wife don't have to bother me for a screw driver or a hammer.....

This box is classic. I'm sure I will drink a beer and stare at it from time to time...... just like I do with my old motorcycles....

Likely early 70s.

I just picked up the same stack a few weeks back. I made a post about it in the red/grey craftsman thread as well as the vintage toolbox thread. They are a couple pages back.

Early to mid 70's upper box will have a date stamp left side on the inner portion next to where the tray would go. Bottom box will have a stamp on the frame lower right face off center to the right. Yes those are friction slides, not ball bearing slides. Now for the fun part do you have the keys and what key code is the lower lock?

I don't see any date stamp on the top box.... this pic. shows what I have.
doesn't look like a tray would fit in there.... anyway, no date I can see.

upper LL 126

both work fine... but the bottom push/turn is tricky

Keys for the lowers (WA series ) is hard to find. I've had to pull the cylinders and get keys made. Takes me about an hour to get the cylinder out.

yeah, I will probably never lock it since it's in the house....
but as far as the date codes... THANK YOU!!!

they were right there... clear as day.

top- 12-74
bottom- USA 01-75

I do have another question....

My sister HAS my dads old middle (intermediate) box...... measurements line up...

Is there a date code on that also?
this # is all she see's right now....

looks like a perfect match....

if you pull out the "lock shield" it has the same badge/logo

No date codes on theiddle boxes. However, the three drawers only were introduced on '72, IIRC (thru 75-76?)

The patent was granted in 1967 to Waterloo, so the 74 and 75 dates make sense. The patent number is for a side door that opens.

not sure how useful it is though..... Most folks push the box to the wall and side access is limited. cool idea I guess...

I've seen this somewhere, can't recall exactly where.Search of Craftsman catalogs I come up empty. I believe the intended use was to store long items like prybars/etc that wouldn't necessarily fit in the width of a drawer.

Yeah, I think my old man lost the key and just welded that bar lock on..... He was a Mechanic at Stanley Works in New Britain CT.

I'm sure I can cut it off and put it back to stock ..... but I'm not sure I will even add the intermediate box..... It makes the whole setup too high....

I hear yuh impressive to look at but you need high heel sneakers to see what’s hiding on the top. That your Pop welded it on there And worked in New Britain is History it’ll do Fine.

I've got two Kennedy middle boxes that look just like that middle box, except they're fully red and obviously the badging is different. Nice OP!
