id this odd ratchet wrench?

1/2 square hole drive. The red lever releases the ratchet. Looks like the handle got cut off. Maybe this was part of a larger piece of equipment? No marks of any sort.

Is there a 1/2" male to 1/2" male socket extension of any length? Then I could use it with my regular sockets.

You need a drive plug. These ratchets were common up until mid 30s. You would push the drive plug through to reverse direction. You can still buy drive plugs today.
