ID this Vise

Was at my brother's shop yesterday. He was showing me his new welder and welding table he just built. Massive piece of artwork, 3'x4' with surface made out of 1" plate. Said it tops the scales at 1,100 lbs. He is an iron worker, and dabbles in blacksmithing projects on the side. But anyway, on to my question....

He acquired this vise which he mounted to the table. Just like the table, this thing is massive. There's a big fancy "6" on each side, but the name and other identifiers are illegible. We think we can make out the word "Wallace".

Any ideas as to what company made this vise would be greatly appreciated!

This vise is probably the same as yours.... a version that many different companies put their name on.

Definitely comes from Yu Lik Ding Dong Most Best Vise Company in Shenzen, PRC.

Jeep: a little translation of what Sponge was saying is it was made in PRC (China) and by several companies. it's a low quality inexpensive vise made there and branded by several different companies. I've heard they sell new for about $75 +- and I've seen them for $25 and in decent shape and passes on buying them. if you NEED a vise and don't own one and it's cheap it will work better than no vise, but if you don't NEED a vise and can keep looking I would.

Thanks Guys! Little Bro won't be too happy to hear this. He's "Made in the USA" all the way, and doesn't want anything in his shop made on the other side of the Pacific (read China). But, knowing this, and after I tell him, I may be getting a 6" vise for my new shop (the one pictured above).

That's what I told him. I did say we would keep trying to confirm the country of origin. His reply was: "If it is from China, it will soon be going out the window to the scrap bin. Or at least until I can get a USA vice."

I offered to remove it from his shop.....

Jeep: That big chunk of Chinese steel might last a lifetime, but I've also seen many that are broken. if you need a vise and he doesn't want it then heck yes grab it and use it. it might not have the heft or the precision that some of the better vises have, but it might just work as a third hand which is what a vise is really supposed to be.

there are also versions with a BIG 4 & 5 on them. probably the most common Chinese older vises are the double swivelers and I have yet to meet a guy that wasn't using his and loving it. most look like they've been to war with all the bondo and paint flaking off and a lot of them are welded an pinned, but they keep on working in most cases.

BTW I know you probably thought the #6 vise was older, but guessing it from the 80's so marginally vintage. if you look in the general tools section there are probably a lot of threads about the big # vises.

It's perfect for welding, he won't feel bad when it ends up looking like **** like most welders vises.
