Can anyone give me details about this unusual Craftsman socket and wrench set? I've done some searching, but haven't found any information, only a couple of auction site photos.

Are these just an oddly-cut version of 12-point sockets and wrenches?

Look up “spline drive” wrenches and sockets. I have several sets of these made by Wurth. I have no issues using these but some claim they can damage certain types of hardware in various states of rust / corrosion.

+1 on Universal. I have a set of deep ones. I thought I'd get something different so I'd have deep, 6-point, 12-point and shallow in my arsenal of tools. They work on square nuts. I've never worked them hard, so no info on how robust they are.

I had that exact set at one time. I sold it about 10 years ago. Don't think I used it.

Attached an old picture I found in my OfferUp archive.

I think I have a couple random wrenches--came from a random box of tools Granddad and I bought together when our Sears was closing in '14.

I don't remember if the Sears was closing yet, but in late 2013 or early 2014 right before I moved to AZ, I went out and bought my own tools. I wasn't going to have access to my fathers Craftsman USA tools anymore.

This spline set was one of those tools. I also remember buying an acetate screwdriver set (which I think were still USA). I didn't really know anything about tools yet, beyond Sears and Craftsman.

I have the catalog they first advertised them in, 2012-2013.

Here's a picture of the cover and applicable pages:
