Does anyone own a pair of these?

45-265-bottom.jpg

I bought some a while back and have a question about them. When I squeeze mine all the way, a locking bar type mechanism engages, but it doesn't serve to keep them open. Instead when you let the handles close, they delay for a millisecond then snap shut. What is the purpose of that locking bar? I haven't been able to figure it out?:headscrat

I don't know about the locking bar, but there is a "finger" that comes out to pull the stripped wire sheathing away for easy removal. It makes for quick and consistent wire stripping. Also there is a adapter so you can set the depth of wire stripping if you so choose.

It holds the wire in place, so that the insulation can be stripped on the other side. If we're thinking of the same thing.

The bar on the left in the picture below is not the bar I am referring to

I don't have a picture of the locking bar I am talking about, but if you look at the photo below I can point out where it is. On the pliers on the left you can see the Y in the handle. Touching the top right portion of that Y is a black bar (tab in the picture). This bar catches a pin when you squeeze the handle and 'locks.' When you release the handle, the lock bar gets bumped out of place and the pliers snap shut.

Yeh , I've got a pair. If you look very carefully you will see that as you let go of the handles ( wire is stripped) first the cutter opens , then the body of the wire is released BEFORE the whole thing shuts (if the wire was still being gripped , your nice neat stripped wire ends will get mashed against the back of the cutting plate). Least that's what it looks like to me .. a clever delay mechanism .:dunno:

This last is right.

There is a much older version, a similar tool that instead actually drops a metal spacer into place to hold the jaws open while you remove the wire. With those, you have to squeeze again to release the spacer.

Thats what it is, so you don't ****** up your freshly stripped wire. (I've had a pair for 30+ years)
