Looking for some cool ideas for using a "curtain" as a divider in a 30X40X12 shop. My work area and benches are located at the closed end of the shop. During cold weather, (which we have 5 months of) I would like to only have to heat my work area. I do lots of small projects during the winter and I really don't need to heat the whole 1200 sq ft. I'm thinking of some sort of a tarp hanging from a rod. I could slide it open when I wanted to and close it when its cold and give me a nice warm area. I have a ceiling mounted propane heater that heats the whole shop, but only heating the first 10 foot bay would be a great savings. Any ideas or pictures would be greatly appreciated. I know there are commercial products, but with all the knowledge on this site, I'm sure some of you guys have skinned this cat before.

Thank you in advance. I really enjoy all the good ideas I get from GJ

I used the duck cloth canvas tarps to seperate my garge into halves.
strunk up on 1/2" EMT with shower curtain hangers. I roll it up in the summer or when I move vehicles from one side to the other.
overlap the "joints" by 6-12in and should seal a pass thru satisfactorily.

not the best but under $100 for my palce w/ 3 8x10 tarps.

I would suggest two tarps hanging from the ceiling, overlapping slightly, with some light tubing fixed across the bottom of each tarp so you can roll each one up to the ceiling with a handle like truck tarps. Hooks at each end of each tarp to hold them to the ceiling.

2 ideas, a curtain slider off a semi trailer or some vinyl "skins" of large billboards, these would be the cheapest as they cant be reused. They also come with a rope sewn in around all 4 sides to slide into an aluminium track.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the great ideas. I have a good idea of what I want to do now. I need to move a couple lights and I'll be on my way. I'll post pictures when I get the divider completed.
