I’ve been thinking of just what rlitman said. I have many photo tripods etc, but the zip wall pole plus a manfrotto clamp would be easier and inexpensive, not cheap.
I brought it up, because it's what came to mind, since I've got a bunch of them. So really, I'm just recommending thinking outside the box. If you've got zipwall poles, then use em. If you've got an extra load binder that'll reach a ceiling, it's basically the same thing. And if you're doing this every day and want a super convenient, lightweight, well engineered system, then yeah, buy the one made for the job.
The thing about a laser is you don't need a super solid mounting. It just has to hold the laser up well enough to get within the pendulum range, and the laser's swing takes it from there. The problem though is you also want ease of adjustment. The rack and pinion on a tripod does that nicely, and you don't get that simple crank option using a clamp.
