Gonna use some extra sheet metal to build a shack outside the shop for my new compressor, and I'm looking for ideas on the best way to do it. Thanks

Savin- I see TX gulf coast.

I used to live east of CC, and now 90 miles NE of Beaumont, so I know our humidity issues here.

We are doing a shop building here soon, and I figured at one time to put the compressor outside like you, but in our case, am now thinking against it.

Only because , we will be AC'ing the shop, and I figure it may be better inside for less water issues.

But I'm still undecided, and would no question have it outside the work area if in a dryer climate.

Just my thoughts. Marc

Yes, you have a good point. But I don't anticipate a/c ing my shop. 6 one way, half a dozen another.....

What reason do you have to move the compressor out of the shop??

A lot people want away from the noise and it may be better to buy a new compressor cost wise. I can talk on my cell phone next to my compressor and the person on the other side can't tell its on.

Remember if it's hard to get to the compressor you won't drain the water daily. Nor can you tell there is an issue before catastrophic failure

If the main concern/reason is for noise- there are several way to curtail excessive noise. First and foremost, plumbing the intake(s) to the exterior. The intake pump noise is the loudest noise being produced- belt, flywheel, and motor are nothing compared to the pump.

I vote for put it outside.
If it was me I would pour a small pad and then build a simple wood frame on it.
Make it so all four sides are hinged for easy access to service from any side.
Make a roof for,it that has a decent overhang and leave a decent gap at the top under the eave for ventilation. Cover gap, with screen.
Also leave a gap at the bottom for ventilation.

Make a 'radiator' type thing out of pipe that will aid in cooling the output as well as provide a place for the condensation to collect. Install a ball valve at the bottom for a drain

This is kinda what I was thinking. Also, it would be going under my lean to.
