Ideas/Help with garage...

Start by saying that I was refered here from Teamzx2.com after posting about some work I want to do with the garage of the house the wife and I just bought...

Here goes:
The wife and I bought a house (in Louisiana) with a detached garage at the back of the property, so it will probably never be used for EVERYDAY in and out parking, but more so for leaving the Bel Air and ZX2 while they are being worked on and storage of all the tools and such.

I want to go with a craftsman red and black theme. The cement ground will probably get epoxied, most of the interrior will be pulled down and redone, the outside will be sanded and painted. Hopefully, the window that is sealed will be replaced, the wiring and lighting will all be redone...that's about all I can think about for now.

I am open to any suggestions or help that ANYONE can offer.
Debating:
Epoxy the floor or no?
Drywall or plywood walls?
Double doors or garage door?
color theme?
heck, everything is debatable right now...lol

they work for me! go with a garage door that's the only question i can answer for now! looks like you got a lot of work ahead of ya but i'm sure you will git-er-done!

+1 on installing a garage door.

If the roof ever needs to be shingled....I can picture your garage with a steel roof.

As far as wiring.....install more outlets and lights than you ever think you will use. Because...eventually you will use them!

The wall with the large door opening......a window or two would let in natural light, plus the garage would look good with them.

I know that I'm not giving you life-changing knowledge, but I'm just tossing out my opinion. Best of luck with your project and keep us all posted with your progress.

Drywall or plywood walls? (T1-11 siding. Looks good, takes paint and you can hang just about anything from it)

Double doors or garage door? (That would depend on the header that is already above the door now. I prefer a single-double wide door over a pair of single-wide doors

color theme? (Something bright and at least a semi-gloss paint to ease cleanup

the first thing that i would suggest would be to make sure it is plumb, level and square. it may just be the pics but, a copula shots make it look out a little. also, if ya have any rot, or sagging, now is the time to tear out and replace. once ya get it right, then I'd lay out your floor plan- benches, cabinets, welder, drill press, compressor, etc. a chalk line works good for this. then id lay out your wiring, 110 and 220 plugs and lights. you want to make sure ya have this nailed down before ya move on to insulation and covering the walls. this ought to get ya started and headed in the right direction. good luck and keep the pics coming.

- I'm still not sure about a garage door, just because it's not going to be used that much. It seems like a high priced investment that may only get used 1-4 times a month if that.
- I thought about the metal roof, but a lot of people say shingles are better in the south.
- As far as wiring, I'll probably end up with like 10-15 outlets on the inside and 4 on the outside.
- I like the idea of a window by the large door. If I have one on every wall, it would really help with natural light...

- T1-11? a fake wood siding inside? I can't picture that. Have any links to pics where someone else use it?
- As far as the color theme, I like the red and black. I'm still looking for someone that has something similar so I can get some ideas. I'm thinking maybe a red floor, with grey walls and a black stripe or something. Need to figure something out for the outside too - just not that creative with colors, but I do plan on having it glossy!

The concrete slab is level, but I haven't been able to really check everything else. It appears that parts of the roof may be uneven, but everything LOOKS level from the inside. There are a few spots that I'm going to ahve to fix due to rot, but not many.

I've seen it in a shop and it's painted up really nice. It would be hard to put a stripe or graphic on it. Very easy to hang things on.

I think I'm going to look at some T1-11 today. How's the pricing on it compared to regular plywood?
As for the flacking on the epoxy, like I said I haven't seen people on here talk about a problem with it, just the ones rating the products where I look to buy it...

I've never seen it on the inside. The picture I posted shows it with paint.

I don't believe that this is T111. I think that this is a wood wainescote (-1 sp?). The surface on the T111 is much rougher.

could've been sanded...the one I saw at lowes was crazy expensive, but that's the same look it had....
