Ideas needed for attaching two items together

Good Morning!

I need some help....... (Insert comments here)

I've got a Meyer Snow Plow Pump, U13

This item was made in the 1960's, 70's at the newest.
Thus, Meyer no longer supports these with repair parts.

I'm running a one piece cable to an operating lever in the cab. The old cables are shot and I was missing the proper Meyer mid point interface so two cables were "Rube Goldberg'ed" together to make the run into the cab.

Trouble is that Meyer used a proprietary fitting at the pump, this cannot be located anywhere.

I had a cable custom made using what I think I can make work.
I cut the ferrel off the old cable and drilled it out to .281, the diameter of the tip of the brass ferrel.

The two pieces fit together beautifully, but......how to hold them securely together in a PUSH and PULL setup?

Any help? Any ideas?

From looking at the metal ferrel it seems as you might have enough thickness to drill and tap two opposing set screws that would intersect the .206 part of thr ferrel and lock in place.

Dang! That's a great idea! Simple, effective.......

I've been thinking filing notches for E-clips, threading the outside of both units for a Barrel Nut....... Haven't been liking any of my ideas!

Any others?

If you could get a deep socket to slide down the new cable, you could weld it to the steel piece. This would essentially encapsulate the brass and allow a good way to hold it to the steel. It is also easy to remove later, not as easy as the set screws, but it will be stronger. I don't know what the other end of your cable looks like, let us know what you end up doing and if it actual holds up.

I've got the beef for National Fine threaded set screws........hmmmmm

Also, a 9/16" 3/8 drive deep socket does indeed fit over both and will encapsulate the brass tight against the steel......hmmmmmmmm

Knowing now what I wish I'd known a few days ago what I know now...........

I'd have had them put a threaded ferrel on both ends, then I would have simply tapped the steel ferrel...........heavy sigh.....

5/16-24 (.3125) .... "I" tap drill (.272) ....... .416 nose outer diameter.... Close bite......not a lot if wall left........hmmmmmm

Huh!..........I'll just flip the cable, threaded end in the old ferrel at the pump, use the other end at the lever control held in place with an external snap ring or an E-clip!......(as designed !)

I Think I'll run in a tap and see how much thread bite I have in the steel ferrel. I could also put a nut inside the bell as well as a jamb nut on the outside!

Easy peasy!

Just pulled the cable out, reverse threaded it, found an E-clip..... Viola'!

Wow! Never realized how beat up my vise really is until I looked back over these photos!

It's an old 1946 Wilton that spent many decades in a Flying A service station. Its worked hard!
I Got it from the owner, my Mothers 2nd husband, after he died.

Final set up...........

Old Meyer Snow Plow Cable ferrel attached to new operating cable and a home made push / pull lever using angle iron and a heavily modified mower throttle lever.

Great idea. Ive used a socket in the past and welded the socket to the metal fitting. Your solution was way better and you can even replace the cable and keep you steel fitting.
