Perhaps the first question would be wether to restore one or just leave it as is. In this case it's an older red Snap on 1/4" drive tool set tray. There are places where the paint has chipped off and possibly might have some surface rust. I have access to a sand blaster that is dedicated to very delicate things. If I were to blast it, I'm not sure how I would handle the hinges. I could grind the pins out but what would I use to replace them? I'm just looking for opinions and help from people who have done this already. I have come to value most folks views on this forum. One more thing...does restoring lower the value of said tin?

Restoring something that doesnt need restoration will lower its value. If its really beat up and the restoration is done properly then it can add value (usually only to a really rare piece).

Correct. However, I wouldnt be concerned with the value of a red 1/4" drive set's box. If you want to make it look nice, go for it, its not a rare item, so value isnt of much question. make it look good and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
