Ideas or suggestions on compressor rebuild?

I'd like to hear anything you folks can offer regarding this compressor rebuild. I found a Campbell Hausfeld, 60 gal., 6HP compressor cheap on Craigslist. The motor was missing, but the pump moved freely and for $75, I thought I'd go for it. I bought a motor, and started replacing pump parts. Looking inside the pump I found some scoring on one cylinder wall. The valve plate was trashed, so I replaced that and decided to take a gamble on that cylinder. I replaced the air cleaner, dipstick/breather, and check valve. When I started it, oil began to blow out the dipstick/breather. Not just a little....air and oil were coming out at a pretty fair rate...and she wouldn't build more than 80 PSI....I'm guessing rings and/or that cylinder are at fault. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks, Bob.

Are the cylinders iron or aluminum (some aluminum compressors have iron cylinder inserts)? And how bad is the scoring? If you can hone it out, you may be able to get away with re-ringing it. Otherwise, it's probably not economical to repair that pump.

All cast iron. I'm not sure about the depth of the scoring....to me any is bad. The new cylinder jug is only $42, rings about $25 so.....

In that case, I'd buy the parts and rebuild it - you've already replaced the other items so for not a lot more $ plus a couple of hours you can have a like-new pump.
