Identify Brown & Sharpe Tool

Guessing its made out of bakelite or wood? I think it's probably an insert that goes into a wooden box to hold accessories of various sizes for a tool.

Well, seeing as how SPIB might be the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau, founded in 1883, renamed to SPIB in 1940, it might be a lumber grading gage.

Doubt we will find it in any catalog, no note of it on their site
Looking at the top & bottom pairs, as well as left and right sides those are obviously for sizing tongues and grooves of 4 different sized boards. No idea what CM and SM might stand for

All of those cutouts look suspiciously like a template or gauge for finger joints or something similar to me.

I can't really find any evidence of a B&S lumber, millwork, or tongue & groove gauge being made.
B&S did use a lot of wooden boxes for their tools. Could this have been a tool used by B&S (or a contractor) to make their boxes?
Or maybe it was a comissioned one off by the SPIB?

Companies like Brown & Sharpe, and Starrett, would make custom gauges and other metrology tools.
A gauge for tongue and groove boards would make sense, but I doubt it would have been a one off. More likely just a small quantity order.

My guess it was used to gauge tongue and groove flooring and wall boards.

I am thinking it's a gauge for sharpening cutters for milling the T&G etc
