Hi Everyone, Just picked this compressor up from CL for $100.00 and I got it home and started to research it by photos on web and then to here. So I think I have it down to a Champion Two Stage R15 but it does NOT have the centrifugal unloading front and has 2 removable sides on the crankcase. It does have a 3 inch stroke and the numbers on cylinder head is NR-4-6 and on crankshaft is NR-10-5-3R (not sure if that is a 3). I have ordered new valves for it. Valve Set for Champion R15 & R15A replacement for Z-102 and it does state that the HP valves are same size. Currently has 2 hp Industrial motor, cont 26 amps but wired for 110 right now. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on age or when built as ALL the other photos do NOT have side panels and sight glass is on opposite side of crankcase.

Thanks.

Here are some additional photos of the valves and tank plate which reads year built 1959 from Tank Inc Franklin Park Illinois, Max WP 198 PSI at 650 f, HEADS 1345 "T ELL 'h. SHELL 1345 SER NO 15514.

I just received my NEW valves from Compressor Parts Store Valve Set with gaskets Z-102. They look correct but the LP Intake is thicker old 8.64mm New 10.62mm, LP EX old 8.86mm New 10.75mm, HP IN old 8.80mm New 9.49mm, HP EX old 8.52mm New 8.76mm. Not sure if this will matter as the valve bodies sit down in the Head and the manifolds anchor them. I WILL FIND OUT TOMORROW.

New valves are in and FIT !!! so I guess this is a type of R15 pump still looking for an age of it, must be an EARLY model. Any help of OLDER Champion pump users would be most helpful. Thank You.

It is Official, I have a Champion Two Stroke REN 14 Pump. Just received Manual from Mike Henager at Pacific Air Compressors and it identifies my pump as a REN 14. The specs are internal to pump, Bore 4 5/8 LP and 2 1/2 HP and 3 inch stroke. Pump RPM 510 with 3hp 4 7/3 x 1 1/3 - 2VB 200psi 11 cfm delivery or 14.4 cfm at 100psi @ 645 RPM. 10 1/4 base.

So NOW it is time to sand blast the housing and get ready for paint. Then to move it to its new home on top of my 80 gal champion tank I picked up on CL for $100. This will give me ALL the AIR I will ever need as my PUMA 60 gal and Tying the outputs together for AIR to DA and blaster

Glad you were able to figure it out and sharing the vendor that was able to help you. This will also help others in the future who come across one of these units.

He LIKES a challenge to help out others to SAVE and rebuild some of the BEST AIR COMPRESSOR PUMPS ever built. He has manuals for some very OLD pumps and even parts, so give him a call for HELP and parts for your Old and New pumps. Sending photos is always a PLUS to help identify an unknown model pump.

Hello, New to the board as of today.
I got a question. Recently I came up with a Champion Air Compressor that seems worth salvaging & putting a motor on.

The tag on it says REM14 66E. I noticed that rjm32792 stated that he has a "Champion Two Stroke REN 14 Pump"....REN instead of REM.
It'll be a few days before I can look at that tag again.

Well either way I've been all over the internet hunting info on this thing & not finding much. Monday I may try to connect with Pacific Air Compressors out of Portland & see what they say about this thing. I've dwelt with them before on some other stuff.
Hunting info like how many RPM's this thing should turn. I assume something like 500-900 or so?

TIA, James

Here is the chart from the other thread if you missed it. Has the specs for the ren 14.

Does anyone know the years this class of compressors were produced? We just closed on a place with a garage and got the keys just before dark tonight. I have got to move a lot of junk to get up close to the compressor that powers the in ground single post Rotary lift with the H pattern lift with short arms that slide over the H shape base. From the deed the guy got the land in 1974 and built the garage before the house.

Over the weekend I will clear the compressor area (inside of shop so it is well protected) so I can get up to it. I know it is 220 volt and the motor is huge looking. It pumped up to 150 PSI before we turned it off one day before we closed and empty the lift went up fine and we had to use a ladder and get on it for it to come down. My tractor diesel mechanic was with me telling me how they work. He said the lift was not worn out because it has no rotation in either direction but it does have the safety pipe stand what you can pin at full height. The guy was using a heavy tie rod end.

The compressor turns very slow and makes a slow quacking sound so I hope that is normal. I do not think it is knocking or at least hoping so. :)

The seller's father passed 2 years ago at the age of 81 and said it has not lifted a car in 6-7 years but he used it as an adjustable height work table for making furniture until a major health failure in 2015. I guess it had not been used for a few years and it was still like 18" off of the floor. I found the oil fill plug for the lift in the floor near the cylinder and and going to check and see how much water is at the bottom

I can see he seldom purchased new but seemed resourceful in finding used equipment so I expect the Rotary lift and the Champion compressor much older than 45 years. The address that I could see today was Princeton Ill so it was before zip code time. I think the company name was just Champion Equip. There are numbers on the compressor behind the big cooling 2 belt pulley that I did not write down and those will be helpful.

In the meantime I am going to dig through 45 years of stuff and try get the shop back in working order the best I can. Two of the adjustable lift arms are mounted and two are laying over to the side because that was the first thing I checked out. :)

Thanks for all the posts about old compressors. I see some very old Champion compressors listed for high prices on eBay.

Well we cleaned out around the Champion today and the base of the compressor reads Re-10-9a.

The motor is a Leland 2 HP Volts wired for 230 with Amps
12.5 Single phase at 1725 RPM rated for Continuous Duty, Ref# 13388 DV 5560 and is so huge.

The 82 gallon tank is by Beaird for Champion dated 1 1956 with a working pressure of 200 PSI. We pumped out a little over 20 gallons of water. Most was totally clear but the last 5 gallons had a layer of oily foam on top of the water. I have no idea where that came from unless compressor blow by from the crankcase over the years.

The oil was some low but not really low and was more of a clear green color. The crank seals seep some but at this point I do not plan to do any wrenching on it because the old screw type tank shut off valve leaks all the time and there is no dryer/water trap in the system so that will be a future task.

Next at hand is to get the water that has been blown into lift drained out of the bottom of the lift like we did the air tank today. Still thinking on the "How to Do it" part. :)

I just realize I can not upload photos directly from my computer to the forum software it seems. The shop was build well in 1975 but has not been updated on the inside or outside and has been in full disuse for a few years and the last car lifted was 7-10 years ago and same story for the house to the rear left. Both are truly fixer uppers but both the son and his fiance have good fixing skills. Today she marked all of the trees to not cut or clear with the backhoe when I get it over there. The place has really become overgrown since a 2007 Google Street view was shot.

The reuse and rebuilding of old equipment makes me have hope in those younger than myself.
