Hi all,

I just bought a used 2-post asymetrical car hoist from an auction. After stumbling upon this site, I've been inspired to remodel and declutter my garage (36'wx24'dx15'h, 3rd stall is 22' deep).

The lift was used at a local tire shop that went out of business a few months ago. It working when it was removed. I have not installed it yet because I'm trying to collect information about it first and I want to restore/repaint first.
I don't know the brand or manufacturer which is making this nearly impossible to find installation details :dunno:
All I know is that it's rated at 7000 lbs. It's a true asymetrical design, meaning the posts are turned roughly 30 degrees and the arms are not the same length. It uses a Doerr 220v motor. It uses and overhead cable & hydraulic hose style. It's 11ft wide and about 11-12ft (don't remember) in total height. The color is a dark blue unlike any other lifts I've ever seen and the arms are red.

I've researched it for hours and have come up with only ONE other pic of someone else using an identical looking lift.... mine is a different color of course. This is the only pic I can find where the top bar (connecting the 2 posts) is exactly like mine. :dunno:

Can anyone help my identify who makes this lift or where I can get any more info about it? Thanks in advance

Here it is, disassembled and awaiting repaint/restore then installation. Pardon the ultra messy garage, This is the beginning of my garage declutter/remodel.

Can anyone point me to a site or retailer that might know who makes this hoist?

I can't stand using a jack to lift up my car....while looking in the next stall and seeing a 2-post lift sitting there........un-installed!

Looks a lot like one of our old lifts at work. What are the lift posts like? are they a screw type (to adjust pad height) with like a 4"x4" rubber top plate?

That doesn't look like a bendpak from what I can see.. unless its some really old model, but they have always had 9k lifts, and never had red arms, right?

The pads are 4"x4" square with a diamond plate pattern on top and screw in to adjust height.

I was told it was a 7,000 lb lift but am not 100% sure. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the arms might have been spray painted red. Underneath the chipping/rusting red paint I see some parts are dark blue like the rest of the lift.

I will try to take more pics of details tonight when I get off work.

Thanks to everyone for your input so far!

Not a BendPak. Looks like an old "Texas" lift. Perhaps...old Worth Equipment or Grand Lift.

Ford Smith was based out of Stoney Creek Ontario Canada. They went out of buisness a few years back. I believe they were quality canadian made lifts. I still see many shops in the Toronto area using there lifts.

Update!... After years (literally) of searching and checking through Google hits and hundreds of Craigslist ads once a month (in hopes that I would find something with a similar color scheme), it turns out that "JSK" was right..! The lift I have is a classic lift made by "Grand Inc" Apparently it was a reputable company that made this robust lift.

I found some more info from www.sviinternational.com in reference to Grand Inc. lifts.
"This company definitely qualifies for being known as the grand-daddy of the Texas style lift. Over the years there have been many manufacturers that have come and gone and each one has one thing in common, all of their lifts were either a direct copy of or very closely resembled the Grand lift design. Grand lifts at one time were also private labeled to the Weaver lift company."

My question is: What is meant by "Texas" or "Texas Style" lifts? Was there a bunch of lift companies based out of Texas some time ago? Did these Texas based companies pioneer the design and innovation for today's modern brand lifts? Maybe some of you guys who are career auto techs can chime in with some insight.

JSK, i know its been years since you last posted to this thread but how did you come up with the notion that mine was probably a "Texas lift? (whatever that means!)

I think I have recently picked up the same lift. Was told my a local lift installer that mine is also a Grand Lift. He’s been in the business his whole life and says it’s a good USA made 10k lift. I found mine on Craigslist and got it for $800.
I just uploaded a couple pics of mine installed.
