Identify this gizmo?

I found this in the street yesterday... What is this thing?
It's a fun little piece, I think I'll use it as a paperweight.
It was encrusted with rust, but a soak in evaporust solved that.
But still... I'm curious, what was it's origin?

First thought when seeing this was an adjustment dial to an offset boring head. At least one idea. Good luck.

Yup, used for threading on a lathe. It’s so that you can engage the power feed at the appropriate time to make your cutter follow the same path each time you take a pass when cutting your threads.
