I figured this was the most appropriate place to ask this question. So I am a watchmaker by trade, tinkerer/woodworker/cheapskate by hobby. :D

My tool supply house charges $26 for this bench mat and while I find it very useful for holding my tools in place on my bench I cant help but wonder that this material is actually used for something else and being dubbed a bench mat (belt, tank tread :)). Ideally, Id love to find a larger piece of it to outfit a new bench I am building.

Anyway, here are the details:

Dimensions roughly 12"x7"
Definitely rubber in material and pretty flexible at that

So, any guesses as to whether this material is used for something else?

one of my desks at work is covered in a sheet of that stuff. pretty available, just google corrugated or ribbed rubber sheet/ roll and quite a few vendors will pop up with wide ribbed and fine ribbed. seems like i usually see it as anti-slip mats in industrial settings as well as on work benches. great if you spill a little coffee it doesnt spill too far, terrible for a writing surface

Hey that is just floor runner. It comes in a bulk roll, 3 ft wide and can be bought at most all hardware stores. You just buy as many lineal ft as you need. I use it for lining my toolboxes cause its cheap and keeps most small tools from rolling around.

No.

That is rubber belt mat'l. aka rib belt.

Notice the webbing on the back side.

Floor runner/stair tread is not the same.
No web.
Cheap and bought at Lowes all say long.

Flat top web industrial belt not so much.
Flat tips say it all.
Not stair tread.
Belt mat'l.

BTDT.
