Is anyone here (Matco rep?) familiar with this plastic Matco box? This was bought off the truck in the early 1990s. This was one of my first tool purchases ever so I'm sort of attached to it.

I recently contacted Matco customer service to see if I can obtain a replacement latch but the CS rep is unable to indentify the box. I was asked if I can provide them with a part number. I looked all over the box but don't see any PNs stamped on it.

Anyone know the part number or even a series name? I know it's a long shot but maybe someone here knows.

Thanks.

Holy cow! I've got that same box. Bought it in the early 1980's for way too much money. The handle of the tool tray broke years ago and I replaced it with a piece of broom handle.

It really is a POS. Mine has been reduced to doing duty in the basement as a spare/miscellaneous hardware bin for the last 15 years.

Haha..I'm not alone. If you look closely the tray handle is broken too on both ends. I have a screw there to hold it in place. And one the the latches broke after a few years of use too. Mine has been relegated to plumbing tool storage in the garage but I still use it on occasion when I need to take my tools mobile.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I bought that too back around 1987, it came as a promotion if I remember correctly. Mine has served in the back of my pick-up trucks for over 23 years. Whenever I carry it I always carry it to the side so that if the handle beaks loose it won't land on my feet. I like it since its plastic blow molded and since it softens the blow on what it hits, plus it doesn't rust. Its not the type of box I would use full time as a service tech of any type.

I had one like that, but don't recall if it came from Matco or Snap-On. Eventually, teh lid hinge cracked apart, leaving me with a three-piece tool box, better known as trash.

Wow...that's incredible you have it! A catalog from 20 years ago. Thank you very much. I'm continually amazed at the collective knowledge of this board.

I carry it on the side too!! The top handle sometimes slip out. A few times that box dropped to the ground and spilled everything. But since it's blow molded, the box survived mostly unscaved.
