I have a set of Blackhawk metric sockets in my box from who knows where so when I saw a set of SAE sockets and a ratchet/extension on MSC I thought it would make a nice little set to keep in my truck.
Anyhow, I ordered the set and when it arrived, I was surprised to see that the ratchet was not the typical knurled handled, round headed Blackhawk ratchet I expected. Nor was it the ratchet advertised as coming with the kit. In fact, the ratchet was in a separate sealed bag rather than sitting down in the molded plastic compartment that was clearly designed for the traditional ratchet.
The ratchet says Blackhawk right on the handle, and it does have a round head, but that's where the similarities to the other Blackhawk ratchets I'm used to end. It has a knurled thumb wheel but rather than being used to spin the ratchet head, it is actually the reversing mechanism. The head is quite compact and the gear has somewhere around 70 - 80 teeth rather than the 45 of the old style. It's also about an inch shorter than the other style.
I can't say I'm disappointed as I kind of like it overall, but in Googling the model number that's clearly stamped on the handle, I can't find a single picture of this ratchet anywhere on the web. That seems unusual to me.
Has anyone seen one of these? Where is it manufactured?
Thanks in advance for any info.
