I picked this up at the same place I got the Walker Turner drill press. It had a tag on it for $10.00. I just paid for it and put it in the truck never looking in the drawers. There was a complete set of taps and dies from 6-32 to 1/2" along with the handles. Also various punches allen wrenches and an old and I mean old light meter and a bunch of other stuff, still haven't sorted through it all.
I don't know if this box is hand made by some student at some point or if it was actually factory made. There is no name on it. Those handles are solid brass and at some point someone cut the locking loop to get in it. It is all 1/8" steel. Anyone ever seen one like this?

I have never seen anything like that before. It's cool. My guess would include a display cabinet at a hardware store that sat on a counter, a cabinet built to accompany a piece of machinery or a cabinet designed to be part of a van/delivery vehicle.

For 10.00 bucks I would have bought it too.

We have one like with pur taps and dies in it, and a smaller version with carburetor parts in it....definitely neat. I would guess they were built in late 50s to early 60s?

I'm dropping it off at the bead blaster after work. I don't have the time to strip it right now and may consider having him powder coat it gloss black or red. I got a gazillion taps and dies with the drill press deal so maybe this is just the ticket for storing them. I still haven't got them all sorted out! Thanks to all for the info.

Looks like an early version of a Montezuma.

Yes, I googled Montezuma and you could be correct as they look very similar in construction but I didn't see any with the drawer layout mine has.

Thanks for the info.

There shouldn't be anyone on this site who wouldn't have bought it for $10! :lol_hitti

I'm pretty sure one or two have been posted on here before. :headscrat Can't remember the details, but they remind me of a predecessor to the Montezuma boxes.

I don't know why, but I seem to remember a similar box, in red, being posted and identified as a Mac or Matco, and being used in a service truck. I could be wrong though, my memory can be iffy.
