Identify this tool

I just got this at a 2nd hand store.
I want to use it to heat up nuts,bolts and other things.
I told the guy this was used to heat lead for sealing joints (plumbers).

He said that its a forge for blacksmith.

looks castiron.. small lead pot used to melt lead

it is not a forge, but i guess you can set it a forge and then take the vise grips off. then go back in and grab the container after the material is melted. do the vise grips come off it you want them to?

you might also be able to use those vise grips as a clamp to hold something on your bench while welding or cutting something fairly big.

just curious why you want to heat nuts and bolts??

you added a picture while i was typing so i guess the vise grips do come off. looks like it was made to just handle that little pot. heat and melt what you wish if you have the heat source.

vicegrips started out as a welding clamp and ground down to fit the pot

looks like it could have been used for pouring lead joints.
I don't remember ever seeing a ladle rig like this, could have been someones creative home brew

Except his pot does not have the pouring widgets (Brain fade...). Looks to have tabs/holes for a handle/bail

Looks like a little cast iron pail which has been used as a melting crucible, in conjunction with the grips as a makeshift pair of tongs. A proper crucible should have a spout.
