Identify this tool

Bought a tool box at a garage sale, and the contents had some plumbing stuff including this. I assume it's for some sort of plugs with square socket.

With the modern style faucets, I don't think they find much use anymore.

I have a few and I can't remember the last time I had to use one.

They still sell em new. Both tapered and stepped.
Must be a need for them.

Definitely a seat wrench, haven't seen an old one before just the new ones like at HD and Lowes.
