Can you I.D this vintage tool, its approximate age and its originally designed use? When you pull the trigger on the handle a sharp cutting blade pushes out from the other end.

I picked it up at a local antique shop. I use it for a couple things.

is the gick on the business end of it sticky? as in plant juice?

I'm going with pruning device too.

No, it was dry when I found it. But the blade was stuck open due to a bent shaft that I straightened out to make it operational. I also sharpened the blade with a file.

OK, good guesses.

So here's what I use it for:

1) Cutting/trimming woody/sticker type vines/bushes around the house. Which is probably what its originally made for, but...best yet...

2) It cuts thru old fan belts and mower belts like butter.

Still not sure how old it is as I haven't seen another like it yet.

I don't doubt it's usefulness for pruning, but having looked at a lot of pruning gear through the years, I very much doubt that was it's intended use. Cutting old fan belts is probably closer. Wish I could read the label. I do have an old rose bush I'd like to take it to.
