I am sorting and identifying a batch of old files and most have a manufacturer name stamped somewhere on them. I have one in particular that I would like to know the manufacturer.

This file says A.S. U.S.A. on one side

The other side has a 1 a star, a plus (+) and a star.

The A.S.U.S.A file has me stumped.

I had another that took me a bit and it is a Grobet. Annoying that there is a Logo and a G but not the name. I figured that one...

From the inherited file I also identified:

  • Nicholson (a couple)
  • LION
  • Beaver (1)
  • Hayes (a bunch)
  • Delta (1)
  • Heller NUCUT (a bunch)
  • VIXEN (two floats I believe)
  • Johnson (a couple)
My Grandfather dipped the handles into paint for the primary two brands so I can very quickly tell what two of the brands are. I assume that he did it anyway.

The A.S. File could be American Swiss File and Tool Company.

OK, I need to spend some time looking through those. The catalogs I saw showed the correct "five star / cross / five star" pattern.

I found another post that suggested it might be "OAM Swiss", so I need to search for that as well. Not have lots of luck yet but I only searched for them so far. Maybe I can find something about LION. Not finding anything on the files labeled LION yet. Found lots about Hayes so that was nice. And then on to the file labeled BEAVER.

This may help
