My idrive open will no longer work. If I disengage the motor, can I still use it as a torsion tube and install a common opener that hangs from the ceiling and connects to the header above the with some sort of travk?
I use to have the idrive. From memory I don't know why a regular ceiling mounted opener would not work. I assume the door lifts manually by hand with ease with the idrive motor disconnected?
You can buy a reinforcement bracket. If I remember correctly, the torsion bar in the iDrive has the spring internally. So, if you can disengage the iDrive and open it by hand, a traditional opener should work.
