Picked up some hammers today, $5 a crack. A Hart, two Vaughan's and an Estwing. They also had Plumb hammers, almost identical, some were USA made others (I'm assuming newer) were made in China.

Mickey - great finds. I'm not going to say "score" because that's a frickin hippie term. And I was going blast you for the thread title because it looked some flower power thing, but I know you better, my friend. Outstanding hammer acquisition!!!!!

Um may I ask where you got that estwing ball pein for $5? :shocking:

DesPlaines, Il. there were a few hundred hammers, the guys house was filled with tool and women's shoes, this was the second weekend for the sale and every thing $10 and under (hammers were $10 each no matter the brand or COO) was half price, I was looking for an Estwing masonry and framing hammers as well, but I missed out.

Nice hammers, you can never have too many. I just picked up a Wilton "unbreakable" 6lb mini-sledge with a 24" handle. We will see how unbreakable it is.

I was at an estate sale last weekend and some guy asks why all these guys are here standing in line? Told him it was a tool sale. He says "How many hammers does a guy need?". I looked at a couple of other guys and I started with; bent claw, straight claw, large ball peen, small ball peen, large mallot, small mallot, plastic head, rawhide, and a couple of plastic dead blows. Now if you're doing any body work there's a whole different set of hammers for that. The guy is looking at me in disbelief and another guy says "Now if you want woodworking hammers theres a....." I guess the guy hadn't realized he was a bit out of his element there in line.

I have worn out 2 of those California framers. They are awsome framing hammers. I think I paid $45 for my last one. Great score all I ever find at yard sales is ****, but I keep going and hoping to score!

The MALES house was filled with FEMALE shoes.
I sure hope you disinfect that hammer, you never know if its been where the sun does not shine...(Like anything in life, pretty much)
Im joking...kinda.

Great find.
Do the two vaughn's and the hart all have the same design on the heads? They appear to be simple claw hammers.

Moose,

Have you tried Footprint ball pein hammers? They are nicely finished on the head, have hickory handles, and wait for it................ MADE IN ENGLAND

...and no longer in production*. No idea what the new production items from Visa, who bought the manufacturing rights, are like, but their fibreglass handled hammers are dog rough.

Arco's (extremely limited) range of ball pein hammers is made by Richard Carter in Huddersfield.

*Yes, I know they're still on the website

i have seen some all metal hart claw hammers for sale here , they were made in taiwan

priced at $50 AUD , same as the Vaughan and Estwing claws , they had the harts dumped in a box on the floor , i don't think they were selling too good.
