It’s just a picture of what the world will look like someday when people won’t be able to do anything with their hands or brains but play video games.

This is a garage that was open when I was a child in the 1950s. My grandfather used to stop there to buy bait at the attached store when we went fishing. I’m not sure when it closed. The owner is still alive, but not in very good health. He has a lot of resentment towards people who have broken the windows and stolen just about anything that could be carried. Over the years the roof has caved in and water has done a lot of damage. It is very overgrown now. There is a 1968 Ford that has been overcome with trees beside it. There is also a 1950s International Harvester wrecker and other old vehicles behind it. Other than the vise, I doubt there is much worth the effort to resurrect. He has about twenty sheets of diamond plate that I have been trying to buy for some time. He is cordial to me now, but that has taken a couple of years. He hasn’t been in the garage in probably thirty years or more.

I’m surprised that the city has not condemned the property, declared it a public nuisance, and ordered it demolished. Give him a hundred bucks and a six pack or ??? and see if he’d let you grab that big bulldog.

I like the graffiti style lettering on those old Prentiss vises. I have its smaller brother, a #52

There is another garage not far from it that is a veritable time capsule, closed maybe in the 1960s. The building is intact, and you would think that it just closed over the weekend.

It is in a very rural setting.

Wow. 30 years is along time to ignore your garage!
Could be more, I don’t know. I stop periodically to keep my name in the hat. We talk through the screen door. It is hard for him to stand, and so I don’t prolong it. I’ve been stopping by for 4-5 years now. It was a working garage, not hobby, connected to an old country store. I know that it has been closed for over thirty years, could be forty. Old country mechanic, honest as the day is long, and severely angry towards those who broke in and stole. I usually just keep my offer to purchase alive, haven’t even discussed price. Pointless without him deciding to sell.
