I was in the attic anyway, and I turned off my gas line because winter is over.

Turns out it’s getting a little chilly. I tried to turn the heater back on and it didn’t work. I crawl back up in the attic and realize my mistake and turn the gas back on.

Still doesn’t work. Opened it up and saw the code “ignition failure lockout”. The plate says it’s a three hour lockout. That’s fine.

I was curious if I shut the power and turn it back on will that reset the lockout? Future reference mostly. Thanks.

It should reset and retry immediately.

Great. Thanks. I’ve been here since 1991 and haven’t quite gotten around to labeling the breakers…..

There will be a cutout right next to the furnace. You don't have to go looking for the breaker.

There is a well document startup sequence for a furnace. Once you get familiar with you, you can watch it go through the sequence and spot where it fails. Starts with the inducer motor.. And the final one is once the furnace starts up give it another couple minutes to ensure that the flame sensor tells the controller that all is good.

If you have a hot surface igniter ( has two 14 gauge wires ) needs to be replaced even if it lights the burner burner control is looking for a certain amps. Remove it take it to appliance parts house.

I'm guessing part of the startup sequence either directly or indirectly checks for gas flow....

With the gas line OFF it would never ignite and should lock out.
