I'm a noobie with a heating question

I've been a big fan of the Garage Journal forum but haven't posted yet. I started building a 24' x 24' garage last Fall and I'm making some great progress. I have a series of photos posted on my website here. I've been heating the garage (while we drywall) with a G73 240v electric heater. It works okay but takes a while to get the place warmed up. I've been pre-heating the garage with a reddy torpedo heater (kerosene) but it stinks up the place. Yesterday, I scored an old Reznor 25K natural gas heater. It was one of those "you take it down and you can have it" scenerio so the price was right. I'm planning on running a gas line out to the garage and using this instead of the other heating methods. The reznor heater was in an enclosed back porch and is in great shape considering it's age (i think it was made in 1952). I dismantled it and between compressed air, a vacuum cleaner, and some elbow grease I got the old girl pretty tidy. My question is how is it supposed to be wired? I made a drawing of all the components (see below) so if someone can help me connect the dots that would be great. Worst case scenerio, I'll have a local heating repair shop check it out and wire it but I know there are some pretty smart people here who might know how it goes.

have fun,

Wally

I don't get it... why are you re-wiring this thing? You should only need to wire in the 120VAC power and the thermostat. Everything else should already be done.

Thanks, I do have some notes that I made before I unwired the box (the primary power wire was very old and needed replacing) and I also needed to unwire the fan so I could remove it to clean everything (I tested it as well and both high-speed and low speed works). My notes get me about 80% wired the way it was but I wanted to get an understanding as to how it actually works. Here are some labelled pics to show what I have.

I'm not big on recommending using this heater.
Nonetheless, I would remove the heat exchanger and inspect. I'd probably replace the gas valve.
You shoud be able to test the limit/temp switch with a meter and heat gun.

This heater will require and only work with a vertical vented exhaust as it is not power vented and has a constant lit pilot.

Here's some similar info to help you along but I can no way verify, recommend or be responsible for any of this info or if it is correct for your heater.

Google modine heater wiring diagram

Set up with a combustion analyser, testing both sides of the HX. You will need to bring in combustion air. This thing could easily put you to sleep, even is it is serviceable.

Thanks to the people at Reznor, they sent me some old schematics for their outdated models. Here's the wiring diagram for this unit (LUS25F) and a few others.

Once the gas line is hooked up (as well as primary power), I can light the pilot light, then blow it out and the gas shut off valve should click off. If the gas stops flowing to the pilot were golden.

Now that the weather is getting unpredictable, it's too late to trench a gas line out to the garage (it's becoming a muddy mess). I'm going to wait a few months and install a new unit instead. I've been looking at the Big Maxx (Mr Heater) at Northern Tool or possibly the Hot Dawg by Modine. Rather than deal with an old unit I'm going to do it right with a brand new one and be done with it.
I'll sell this old girl to someone local.
Thanks for all the info.

Good decision! Even with a new unit make sure you put in a good CO detector.
