I'm back...again. Calling Private Lugnutz. Do you recognize this tool pouch?

Hello, after dealing with some health issues, I am finally trying to get around to my hobbies again.

I'm hoping Private Lugnutz is still here, and he or someone can help me to ID this very old canvas tool pouch. It looks military to me, but I would love to learn more from the experts. Maybe I can get this pouch to someone who really needs it.

Nice find! It's an M10. The "41-R-2705-23" marking is the Federal Stock Number. The pronounced serifs on the stencilled font are fabulous. Here are some excerpts from the ORD 5 SNL J-15 (Benches, Toolboxes, Cabinets, Bins, Tool Chests, Tool Rolls, etc, of General Application), dated 13 July 1944

If you're going to sell or trade it, don't touch it. If you're going to keep it, it can be cleaned by immersing it in warm water and Dawn or some equivalent bland liquid soap and gently agitating it. Don't scrub it with anything. Let the grime lift off. And then just let it dry in the sunlight. Personally, I wouldn't go crazy. The marking is legible and it has 'been there, done that' character.

EDIT: The M1, M10, and M14 tool rolls were kept inside M1, M5, or M6 chests (like those shown below), along with spare parts and sometimes even rounds of ammo, and could be found wherever you saw a .50 cal BMG, and also carried on various vehicles, including Dodge WC's and White, Autocar and Diamond T halftracks.

Jeff's, like Lump's (see the "MRT 3-51" above the FSN), is postwar. Wartime examples are not rare. Not common, but not uncommon, either. "Pete" in Jeff's reply refers to MVPA member Pete Silfven, who has one marked 1945. As koinkydink will have it, I'll be sitting down to have a burger with Jeff at the Wild Horse in Patagonia, AZ next week. I'll have to show him Lump's on my phone.
