I'm done with SK

I have a broken 1/2 dr. ratchet needs a rebuilt kit. called SK, told I need to go to local dealer. went to the dealer, got turned around because the dealer doesn't do SK warranty anymore because they haven't got reimbursed for warranty part from SK for months. called back SK, and was told they would send the kit directly to me. two weeks passed no kit since I'm only 1 way away via UPS/FEDEX. called back again, was told kit will be shipped next week.

now, by friday, it would be 5 whole weeks since I was told by SK they would send me the kit. I'll be putting it in the trash can together with the chinese tools.

Good luck. I have been waiting since August 24th 2009 for a simple 3/8 ratchet rebuild kit. I e-mailed them a few weeks ago and they told me it is still on back order. Maybe there is a huge backlog due to the strike that had been going on at SK.

You will get them. This summer it took me almost 2 months to get my rebuild kit from SK. But it came.

I dealt with an SK ratchet exchange before. They actually lost the ratchet I sent in but they eventually replaced it. Just stay on top of them. It's a pain but you'll get what you want. I found it best to call them.

SK sent me a rebuild kit but it took so long I actually forgot about it; it was was a surprise when it showd up! Not exactly top tier customer service!

"Ya ALL" need to remember that S-K just came off a nasty strike. Elroy would venture to say they are "on the edge" and are most interested in selling tools NOT sending out freebies for warranty claims.

It takes awhile to get things back to normal after a strike and the business climate hasn't been exactly that great now has it. Ya Know, Ya All

Yeah, it is obvious they are struggling. Either they will go under and you won't get it or they will turn things around and everything will be fine. People who like nice tools should be rooting for them to make it through. Less competitors will likely mean fewer options, higher prices & more stuff from China. If you like nice US made tools, you should hope they survive. Even if you never buy anything from them.

Last year they sent me a rebuild kit for a ratchet. It took them about two weeks or so and it arrived at my door. I would guess the strike has changed things just a little.

The parts store closest to me is phasing out the SK in favor of "PT Performance Tool". I'm pretty excited about it too.

The mullet with a tooth behind the counter didn't understand my refusal to buy a set of metric 1/4" drive deeps of that peddigree. I quote, "They're more better than the S and K's and cheaper."

really i took a sk 1/2 ratchet that the crome was peeling off of the about a month ago to my local dealer and he gave me a brand new one right off the shelf... but i have a s-k plant in my hometown though so might be easier for me

that may be why........

orielly used to be an SK dealer, they stopped because of warranty reimursement issues. even the few mobile dealers around here won't warranty SK because of the same issue.

I have at least a half of dozen SK ratchets that need kits. When I remember to ask at tool dealers, auto parts store and I even tried several distributors all I seem to get is a run-around.

I like SK ratchets, my dad got me into them over 50 years ago; it's too late to completely give up on them now.

I was at Wholesale Tool in Indy a few weeks back and they had signs that said they would no longer accept SK warranties and that they were discontinuing the line. They are now carrying the full Wright line. I asked why as I had no idea of the strike and they said that it was a support and payment issue.

Threads like this reinforce my opinion that it was money well spent to buy at least one rebuild kit for each of my favorite ratchets, in every drive size. I'd have bought more, but the price lately has not been favorable ($10+ each!).

At the time, and sometimes even now, I wonder if it was a waste of money. Reading posts like this, at least for SK, it obviously was a smart move. I'd rather burn a few extra dollars today and have a kit I don't need than to be screwed a few years down the road and have to chuck a good ratchet.

Sorry to hear the SK supply dry up like this. Like others, I hope they get their act together sometime soon. I'd hate to see the brand disappear.

s-k has been in my hometown for over 50+ years and then it was lectrolite before that.

I work for Checker/O'Reilly Auto and we are no longer accepting SK warranty tools, because they aren't paying us and they are back ordered on most tools. There are 3-4 ratchets in my store right now waiting on replacements or kits to fix them. The local Carquest is the same way. I wish it was different, but I don't believe there will be SK Tools made by this time next year unless there is a big turnaround somehow.

Nope, They went on strike account Sk Unlawfully discontinued there health care without Notifying its employees and then wanted them to take a 35-40% Pay cut with a NO Benefits. The union workers was willing to take a pay cut to offset the Poor economy and sales.

Dont worry I have a feeling Sk will be moving there tool manufacturing abroad and there unwillingness to even negotiate is evidence they dont care about there employees and only about the Mighty Dollar. I have some old SK stuff but i would rather swing a HF ratchet before id buy anything new from those Jackass's.
