I'm excited. We are going from 100amp to 200amp Thanks to climate change, central air is now needed in the summer . Last summer we had over 40 C, we were hotter than Los Wages for awhile. My 2car garage workshop had three 220 circuits wired in when we had the house built 35 years ago, a 15amp. a 30amp and a 40amp. With adding more house circuits the panel had only one spare slot and was an obsolete discontinued brand. But since then I've expanded my tool collection with a metal lathe, a mill/drill, a wood shaper, dust collector, and a planer . So I'm getting another 15amp and a 20amp .

Upgrading isn't cheap. The three reasons for upgrading are usually hot tub, A/C or a EV charger. Two electricians, a couple of days work and material, plus the Hydro hook up. I got a nice new man hole in my driveway, even. They had to install that for hooking up the new wires. Did I say I was excited.?

It’s been a few years since we had our service upgraded to 200 Amps, no problems since then.
After the upgrade we added Central Air, an Induction Cooktop and an Elevator.
The next step was the addition of the photovoltaic solar system, 23 panels.

I had a heck of a time finding a meter base / breaker combo for the new 200A service to my new workshop. I swear I must have finally picked up the only one in the metro ATL area.

Still can't find plain 20A breakers (QO) locally.

40C (104F) can't be fun.

I have a 200 amp service. Also have a dual lug meter. Took 100 amps to the garage and left 100 amp in the house.
So I didn’t have to deal with the manufacturer discontinued panel in the house. For the time being at least.

If you’re upgrading to 200, you might be able to go to 400 for not much more. Charging a couple EVs adds up!
