yes i said that... NOW that i have your attention :D

so we have 2 walmarts around me, 3 if you want to drive another 15 minutes. i avoid one like the plague due to the riff raff, and it's not a very well kept up store to begin with. 10 miles away is another (6 from my work) which is kept clean, decent people shop there, etc... so needless to say i drive the extra few miles, especially at the first of the month.

so i go into nice walmart after work this morning to get some oil, and i about hit the floor. now this may be normal for you bigger city people but in the cedar valley of iowa this is not. i saw racks with single stanley sockets and wrenches, brake changing tools, all kinds of stuff! i snapped 2 quick pictures so you'll know what i mean. they had air compressors on display as well as generators, like a big box hardware store would, i haven't been in there in a couple months, so needless to say i was surprised to see them step up their game! i was impressed with their layout, etc... now i'm not saying i'm impressed with their tool quality (they really push that "hyper tough" brand) but to see stanley sockets and wrenches sold individually, brake spring pliers, etc... and them actually putting a step forward into layout and availability, i was happy! wish i would have snapped pics of the generators and air compressors and such. nice to know i have a place to go at midnight if i lose my 10mm sockets like always hahaha. may not be new to you guys but for here this was a big step in the right direction! makes me wonder if wal mart could save craftsman by selling their tools? :fingersx:

anyways, just a hillbilly going on a rave! +1 to walmart for a step in the right direction!

Ugh wal mart. But, never seen that before at one. Almost wonder if it is a test and they may be a distributor of the new craftsman when it comes out?

I could see the cman name selling pretty well at wal mart. I bet a wal mart could sell more than a neighboring Sears...

My local Walmarts don't have anywhere near that tool selection.

1982 might be right, if they are testing the market, before committing to CM tools, we may all see a larger tool assortment, soon

Stay tuned

That is an exceptional selection at your Walmart as none around here have that.

Appears though that Stanley is becoming a prominent supplier to Wally's.

i was just glad to see a step in the right direction! vast selection of oil filter wrenches, pry bar sets, drum brake tools, calipers, ac/fuel line tools, socket organizers, single sockets and wrenches, etc... VERY happy with this! the store just got a remodel so maybe this is coming to others! either way, glad to see they're at least trying to appeal to the tool guy market. step in the right direction

If only I could avoid the people that shop at Walmart then this would be good. Otherwise I'm too worried about catching some sort of communicable disease. Have you ever noticed that nobody ever gets stampeded on Black Friday at Nordstrom's but it's a common practice at Walmart. I wonder why?

I've never seen individual sockets or OEM tools at a Wal-Mart either. Glad you took pics cuz at first I was skeptical that you were seeing anything out of the ordinary. I'm sure the green handled OEM tools probably aren't bad for the money. I have purchased a few OEM brand front end tools after having rented them from an auto parts store and finding them to be good quality.

They vary the stock according to the market. If your area is rural and poorly served by other stores, management may have thought it worthwhile to bring in more tools. I have been in Walmarts in different parts of the country and the stock does vary.If you go to their web site and your local store does not have it and you do a search, it often comes up with " No store within 100 miles of you has this item". Presumably, some far away branch does have it.

Say what you will, but for the prices listed on those tools, I think they'd be ok for the vast majority of people. I've owned several Stanley branded tools (and still do) and other than a few of the black/yellow handled screwdrivers, I can't recall any failures.

Looks nothing like any of the 6 around me they don't carry OEM only AutoZone and very little I dig the green I'd be buying one of everything I don't have probably.

Yeah Stanley is an old classic of a co.. I have lots of hardware and some tools with the name Stanley on them. Walk into a hardware store, and Stanley is all over the place. I have a relative who works for Stanley. I need to ask if he can get me some deals. :)

The local WM has that same setup with the separate sockets and wrenches.

I try to avoid the place like the plague but had to stop a few weeks ago for something or another. Back in one section they had this thing that you stand on in bare or stocking feet and it makes custom shoe inserts or something after reading your feet. It's all dirty and gross I'm like who in theeee fu** would use that??!!

We have two Walmarts nearby. One has a fairly good selection for the average DIYer and the other one has practically no tools. It makes me think that nobody that shops at the second one ever really fixes anything. Maybe they shop for tools somewhere else... Lowes or HD. Most stuff wallyworld sells isn't made to be repaired anyway.

Having loose tools like that seems like it might have a lot of shoplifting and things out of place. Having it behind a locked case might be best for the cost, but I'm sure walmart knows what they're doing by now.

Yeah, but stores and shoplifting are more heavily dependent on the area. I went to a Dollar General where earbud headphones and similar devices were handed only over a counter due to shoplifting. In another area, they are hanging on a board on the store floor. The sad fact is that a store (or a school for that matter), will be a mirrored reflection of the community it serves. A run down dingy store with bars on the windows and high-demand small items secured from theft is a bad place to be.

Whilst not a Walmart fan, I was impressed by the fact the tools in this photograph are so readily accessible. That means the general area is, for the present, a safe place to be with low rates of theft. I'd wager at that store employees are the largest source of theft (not putting down employees, but they are a source of theft - some bad apples only of course) at that store.

That's pretty typical of Walmarts out in the country where people fix stuff. I bet the guns and ammo section is well stocked too.

I bought a set of metric hex bits for a job on a Sunday with the intent that I would eventually replace them with a good set. 13$ 15 yrs ago. Still use them, even on brake calipers etc. Used them on a reman of rusty Euro Mack truck.
The Stanley utility knife is all we use, very brand fussy with that.

The Walmarts in my area (North Jersey) wouldn't dare put tools out like that. The lowlifes would clean them out. For a laugh, I looked at their tools last month at the store located on Route 22 in Union, NJ - the hanging Stanley sockets sets all had individual sockets stolen from them. And there was no tool selection like in the second photo the OP posted. I only go there for oil and socks. Otherwise I avoid the stores - my eyes can only take so many morbidly obese women in spandex before I go blind.

There's 5 Wal-Marts where I live, not including the Neighborhood Market Wal-Mart...and NONE of them have a tool selection assortment / variety like that.

Dare I say, it actually looks respectable! Just hope that typical low-life thieves don't ruin it.

Same thing happened to me. I needed a set of hex bit sockets in a pinch about 10 years, so I ended up with a set of Stanley's from Walmart with the intentions to replace them. We'll, here I am 10 years later still using them with no complaints. They work well and I've never broken or worn one out. I can't say the same for the US made Kobalt metric set that I have.

I love Walmart. I'm on the road a lot and stop at them a lot all over the West and Midwest. I've only found one that was dirty and the people scummy, and that was in the Los Angeles area, in Panorama City. But for tools I go elsewhere.

Nope. Not my walmart.
My walmart only has one row of cheap tools.
Nothing to brag about.
If I needed a tool quick, I drop by Truevalue because they are the closest.

You can laugh if you want to but except for one seafood market in my area, Walmart is the only place that carries crawfish tails. They are frozen but it I am nowhere near Louisiana and shipping costs a fortune so it is the best I can get. Also, the best tea for iced tea is, hands down, Lusianne iced tea bags. Nobody in the North stocks it. From Amazon it is 9 bucks a box, with shipping. I can order and pick up in store at Wally World for a supermarket price of around 4 bucks a box. We go through gallons of the stuff. They have a better selection of Mexican and Carribian canned and jarred stuff than any of the local market chains. They carry plenty of low end stuff too but few places are all good or all bad.

First of all, Wal-Mart sells different items in different stores based on what's popular in an area and the competition in that area.

Second, see all that yellow? Imagine all that changing to red with the most respected name in general consumer tools on them. Anyone else see what SBD is thinking?

(I think they will still carve out a notch for Stanley too)

Lisle too. I have seen the 1/2 drive sockets and combo wrenches beat bad too, woulnt scare me a bit to drop not much more than lunch money on either one if I needed it. A guy could pay for it on the first repair vs making the first payment.

1/4 of Walmart stores does have a large tool selection. a 40" Stanley roller cabinet with top box, Black & Decker drill press and grinder, socket/wrench open stock.... Stanley is probably the best value tool around for the DIY consumer (not Pro).

The Walmart near my parents used to have Clarke mig welders on the shelf to buy. Granted Clarke isn't a high end product but it was a true mig welder with the gas setup, 120V unlike the **** that sell at HF as welders.

I must live in an alternate universe. Our WM is clean and orderly. I have never seen kids riding bikes in the store or fat women fist fighting in the hair spray aisle.

If your WM is over run with dirty, lowlifes, that's because that is what is in your community. It's not like WM imports these people from another planet to your nearest WM store. If the weirdos and freaks were not at WM, they would be at some other store in your community.

Our store carries a lot of hand and power tools as well as an entire aisle of oil and car chemicals. I go twice a year and stock up on oil and windshield washer fluid. Their Tech oil is usually on sale for ~$11/5 quarts. Around Christmas, they had winter formula washer fluid on closeout for 25 cents/gallon. I bought all they had, 12? gallons I think.

I don't get excited about going to WM, but it's not like going to prison either.

That's cool. Their prices on the OEM stuff *seem* very competitive- too bad OReilly doesn't carry OEM (or do they?) 'cause O'Reilly will price match anybody. I often enjoy pitting corporation against corporation w price match policies, plus it means I can step foot in my auto parts store which is FAR less painful than going into WM.

Despite what Coach thinks, if there are low-lifes in your community the FIRST place at which they shop and to where they gravitate is WM.

In fact literally just last night I went into ours to look for clearance oil (the auto section is always vacant while the groceries are insane). No luck, but I bought an inexpensive cell phone charger. While sitting in my truck opening the charger I was parked next to a woman in a beat up XJ who was on her cell talking about "The police are looking for him," and "They're being treated as runaways...."

LOL, at WM such conversations are the norm.
