Hi all,

I suppose that after 2+ years of lurker-ing around GJ, I should do an intro and start to contribute.

I've recently moved to the DFW area of TX and bought my first house. It came with a partially finished 3 car garage that I'm working my way to finishing (build thread will be started soon to keep me engaged and honest!).

My hobbies all involve keeping my 2 year old little dude entertained, autos, motos, and (now that I'm an owner, instead of a renter) general handyman stuff. I'm intending to pick up welding as a hobby soon, too.

It's been great reading and staring at pictures for this long. I hope that I can help bring some ideas and experience to the table, like all of you have.

I'm a pretty friendly fool, so feel free to reach out to say "hi" anytime!

welcome Chris, I am I35 north of you (Oklahoma city) but I have several friends that live Dallas/DFW. If you haven't checked it out yet weldingweb.com is a good forum if you are interested in welding. I actually got linked to here by Jack O's sig on that forum.

Thanks, Speed! I've actually been combing that forum, too. I have my eyes set on a Hobart Handler 210MVP as my starter set for MIG. Based on the scope of the projects I'd like to get into over the coming years, I think that machine will last me and be more than versatile enough.

My task list is as follows: basic organization of garage, put back together my dirty bike that is in a million pieces, continue organizing and a couple wood projects around the house / garage, buy and learn a welder... I have some pictures, but need to take the time to organize it all and document it over the next couple weeks - with holidays and visiting family (happily) interjecting the whole way. :D

I have been "welding" around the garage for my whole life. I put it in quotes because I was never really taught so I am not sure the qualities of my welds. I have a little 110 volt wire feed and a 220v stick welder from the 1940s. I just took a weekend class at the local vo-tech and decided I needed to get the garage in order before I build a fab table.

My list is similar but replace the bike with build a couple of motors in there somewhere. I will keep an eye out for your garage progress.

I would like to say welcome to garage journal but Where in the blue blazes is this frickin cake? Be sure when you post your thread about you garage finish out that you post plenty of pictures, BECAUSE WE LOVE PICTURES! BUT EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY WE LOVE CAKE! And now that you sufficiently tricked me into viewing this thread with the bait of CAKE there better be plenty of pictures, garage, projects, neighborhood Texas hotties, something cause now you owe me.

Ha! Speed, I'm betting any of my "welding" will be in quotes for quite awhile, as well. ;) After wasting some materials and getting some practice, I'm betting that a community college night class or two will be in my future, too!

Thanks, Slg! I'm going to have to get some twinkies in the garage, now, I suppose. Maybe that will become my theme. :p
