...for LED and hardwired in the switch box. I'd like a fob or clicker style remote, nothing to do with wifi or any of that ****. However, it's not as easy as it sounds to get just that and only that. 600W will be way more than enough.

Whatcha recommend?

Lutron stuff are good.. but pretty expensive. I have their older one pre-LED that works with CFL and incandescent, it worked very reliably on Incandescent, on CFL, it dependents on the bulb.

I believe their new one says LED compatible now. it will be the same as CFL, it will be dependent on the bulb.. the BUlb would also have to say Dimmer Compatible.

Make sure what ever you are getting they will have to say LED compatible... if it is not then you'll have to take a chance...

Wasnt sure if this still existed, but found it on HD's site. Lutron Maestro IR

"Only works with incandescent and halogen bulbs"

See, that's my problem. The fixtures are dimmer ready. They have a manual adjustable color range as well, but I set them one up from the lowest Kelvin and I like the lighting tone, just not the amount at times. Full up is good for cleaning but not for TV.

^^^Uses a phone or device like an Echo. I don't want that

I guess I'll have to call up Neanderthal World and see if they have one.:D

it does not unless you buy their hub. I mentioned it can be used standalone with no app or wifi.

I used the Lutron Caseta dimmer and remotes with LED cans. It was also a good way to another switch location without having to do 3way wiring.

Requires neutral. I guess at this point I need to open up the box and see how my lights are wired. If it's only a switch leg they day no worky. I did see some models that work w/o a neutral.

They all seem to require an "app" even though you say otherwise. I'll take your word on that. I haven't found all the details on that model yet.

So if I have a neutral and you are right, then we have a winner.

I second the lutron caseta. I use it with LED bulbs in my ceiling fixture and have a plug in lamp module. You CAN use the app if you add a bridge, but you can also use them without. The pico remote can be used as a wall mount, a handheld, or with a stand.

I'm still hunting. Smarthome is too expensive having to buy the wall switch and the remote separately. I'm unsure about the Lutron Caseta as I've not seen a stand alone hand held remote for those. I have installed 3-way dimmers using the Lutron but all needed a hard wired switch. Seems to me that buying a fan kit is the best shot and just not use the fan portion. That is if I can fit the controller in a 2-gang box. some I've seen are huge.

What say ye folks about that?

Yeah, you need to find out how it's wired. Until then, you're just stroking yourself. There's options either way, with or without neutral.
Also, please describe the dimming capability of the fixture. 2 wire, 3 wire, 0-10V?

I have this Lutron Caseta.
The remote can be mounted in a wall box and thus looks/operates like the primary switch. It works with dimmable LEDs. The remote has a handy preset button so you can quickly get to a favorite level.

I used this to solve a problem. My house is old so when the screened porch was added the wiring was added to the exterior vs being done through the walls. I wanted, in effect, a three way switch so I could turn light on/off without opening the back door in the cold of winter. But I didn't want to drill through the wall or try to chase wires in the wall to get the interior switch into a spot in wall box inside the back door. This did the job. It didn't mind that the exterior wiring didn't have a neutral wire. It has a hidden hard switch that will disconnect power for changing bulbs etc. When wall mounted the remote looks basically the same as the base and doesn't look like a remote stuck to the wall. I did have to find dimmable LED lamps since it wants to fade in/out.

It's not a cheap switch but I think it does what is asked.
