It's very difficult for new members to immediately dive into discussions as many seasoned members call for images and references and the boards don't actually allow you to include either of the aforementioned until your profile had accumulated five or more posts.

It may be more prudent to allow users to post either images or include hyperlinks to photo albums after they (for instance) filled out their profile and added a detailed (a certain character limit) post to the introduction board.

Just a suggestion :)

It's been discussed why this is in place many times before.

Dive into the conversation with some productive posts and you'll get past the 5 post minimum quite easily.

You can link them, but hopefully, it's to a hosting site that won't drop the ball like Photobucket or Imgur.
Just curious, what is the deal with imgur? I know on some other forums imgur is the recommended hosting site. I didn't notice that imgur has problems.

It has been my experience that sooner or later they all get dropped. The best picture hosting is on this site.

When I look at old posts 5 or 10 years old and the pictures have vanished, I always reload from this site.

Yes, a problem with Imgur and their policy about 3rd sales like classified ads. Since GJ has a Classified section, it's not supposed to work with Imgur.

Upload them with attachments.

This is the best. ^^^^^^

I use Three methods. I upload like Nutts suggests. I also post links to my DropBox repository. I also upload pictures to Garage Journal Photo Albums. I then can grab an easy link to a single picture or create a textually backed series of photos in an album and post the album link instead.

On the bottom of my signature line are 3 links, 2 of which are photo albums, right here within our 6 walls of garage journal.

something has changed around here and i have asked but never get a good answer. the top 2 links on your sig line work for me but the the last one on "knots" does not. it kicks me out of the forum and says i am not logged in. i find that happening more and more lately. very annoying to log in an and out so i just move along,

Interesting.... that last link is a simple link to a thread.

This is the text of the link... without using an "insert hyperlink"
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458590

Here is it hyperlinked
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458590

They both appear the same to me when viewed and function ok. I wonder if they respond the same to you.

They all work for me, but I have a suspicion about your issue. This site works both as:
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum
as well as
https://garagejournal.com/forum

However, the cookies that support your login session seem to treat those two names as totally separate domains. So, if you are logged into the site without the www. prefix, and you click on a link to the site with it, you may have to login again.

To confuse matters more, many browsers now hide the www. (and even the https://) in your address bar, so without clicking up there (and possibly copying and pasting the URL to something that can handle text), you will not see the difference.
