Impact Bit Holder that...Holds?

Can you good folks kindly recommend to me an impact-worthy bit holder that actually holds the bit if there is any "pull" on the bit?

All my impact bit holders are just magnetic, and if I'm in a pinch, and need to use a drill bit in my impact driver to make a quick hole, for sure that drill bit will be pulled out of the bit holder as I'm exiting the hole, as the retaining magnet is too weak to pull on the bit. Also, I have problems with bits just falling out on occasion, even when not drilling with the impact driver. Weak magnets.

What works for better bit retention, that is also impact-able?

I have several of these dewalt ones they come in different lengths. They work awesome and will never let a bit fall off. The locking collar is very strong, I have forgot about it in the past and tried to remove a bit with pliers and it wouldn't come out till I realized it was a locking collar...lol. I like that these are really slim, just about the size of a regular bit holder so it doesn't get in the way.

I have one of these and it drives me absolutely bonkers. I quit using it. It does this weird thing where the bit is seated but springs in and out like 1/8" past its resting position.

Fastcap TaperLock is one of the best I have used, but like anything they will wear out too. I am hard on bits, and with daily impact use/abuse I got about 6 months out of it.

There are plenty of bit holders where the bit releases when you slide the collar. They generally do a good job of retaining a bit but aren't 100 percent foolproof. If this is a concern your best bet is just to buy long hex shank bits.

Just buy any impact rated, spring loaded bit holder. I myself use a Milwaukee Shockwave.

I recently bought a few of these and have worked really good. The locking collar being the same size is a great feature to fit into things. Bits lock in, hold tight, and don’t wobble around.

You have to keep in mind that all these bits, holders, screw guides, etc., ... are consumables. They DO NOT last forever. Buy multiples, toss them when they break or get worn out.

Wera, don't know if they are impact rated but I've used them with impact drivers without issues. They also fit into the collar type very similar to he collar on the impact driver itself.

It's not impact rated, but should be OK for light duty like screwing in a 4x40mm screw into soft wood. If it has to go ratatata then it'll give in eventually like when my father used his not impact rated Dewalt bit holder with my impact driver and now the bit is stuck inside the holder.

Lots of good info for a problem I am currently having building a play house for my grand daughters.

Thanks Bolster for getting us started, and thanks to all for the input.

Went with a couple of the short Dewalt ones.

The DeWalt ones seem to be the best I've found of the consumables and we've tried pretty much all the usual suspects
Ryobi
Milwaukee
Brand X

The closest thing I found was Makita. It holds about on par with DeWalt

Good luck

These Makita bit holders have become my new go to. They work great and are nice and slim. They are magnetic, but also have a mechanical retention. I usually don't like the mechanical portion, but on these holders, it works the way it should and doesn't make it too difficult to remove the bit. They come in a few different lengths if needed.

The DeWalt MaxFit locking bitholders are really good. They use both a magnet, and ball bearing to hold the bit in place.

The LaBear impact bit holder also uses ball bearings and a magnet, and has even less play than the DeWalt, but requires a little bit more force to change the bit.
