Impact Drill Chuck?

My buddy has a couple drill chucks with 1/2" drive square holes where there would be a taper. What would these be used for?

To drill holes using an impact wrench.

Why use an impact instead of a drill motor? Masonry bit?

That is one advantage that cowan claims. I'm really not sure, always seemed interesting though.

There's a LARGE difference between a hammer drill and the force that an impact wrench creates. Neither of which are good substitutes for the other.

If you connect it to a standard ratchet, you can grab onto the shank of taps and reamers above the square drive and spin them in areas where a regular tap handle wont fit.

That sounds like the old bit and brace chucks. You only have the chuck, correct?

He has two of them. A 1/2" drive fits right in. He said he's never used them.

An impact gun with that chuck becomes a great taping gun.

Mikita has a chuck for a 1/4" drive impact gun that sells in Home Depot.

I would like to get a chuck for a 1/2" impact.
