Hi,

Looking to buy some SO impact extensions when i next see my dealer.

Any advice on which to get, they do both locking and friction ring type.

The locking ones cost a fortune, but im thinking the friction ring will flatten with use and may not be replaceable rendering the extension useless if sockets can just fall off it ?

I've got a set of 1/2 dr Snappy impact extensions. They are friction ring just like the nose of my impact wrench. I've rune the hell out of them without an issue (using impact sockets, since chrome ones get stuck on). The ring is a warranty item just like any other Snappy part. Walk on the truck and get it fixed/replaced.

I like locking ones... but I couldn't stomach truck price for them. I got Armstrong ones, which are i-damn-dentical to Matco's. Right down to available sizes. So if you wanna buy a Snap On set, I'd go for regular ones. There are enough times you don't need or can't fit locking ones to justify both IMO.

I have a 3 piece 3/8 locking set, that I use with a 1/4" hex impact and an adapter. I chose locking extension because swivel sockets, long extensions, and heavy sockets tend to come off non-locking extensions. Especially the swivels, which I really like to use. I have the Snap-On ones and they have been good. The locking ring has not really been an issue as far as obstructing use. It happens 1 in a 100 uses maybe.
