I've read the old posts on mechanic's gloves and have a pretty good idea of the general concensus on them. However, I am interested to know if anyone routinely uses the "impact" gloves when operating impact or vibration type power tools. I home manufacture an item that requires alot of air hammer use setting cold set steel rivets, as well as frequent random orbit sanding. My hands often get very numb after this work and/or ache the next day.

I use the Mechanix "M-Pact" glove all the time. If you are using them 24/hrs a day I don't know how well they would last but mine hold up for a few months @ light duty/weekend warrior work. I don't have any problems picking up and using hand tools with them on. Picking up and trying to start nuts and bolts is hard.

I don't think they'll give you better protection from the air tools but do make it more bearable to the cold on the handles.

Mechanix also has "M-Pact II" that are supposed to be more padded. They have several differant gloves ranging in price.

They also have these: "Impact Protection"

Be aware that the Snap-On Gloves and the Mac Gloves are "Mechanix" with the Tool Manu.'s name on them and marked up anther 50% or so.

A guy at my work bought the M-pact II... he was complaining that the glove has too much padding on top and that it kept getting in the way in tight areas

I guess it depends on how big your hands are too

I have the craftsman Pro version and they dont seem to make that much of a difference from the regular ones. I use the craftsman's because you can pick them up oin sale for 10$ a pair vs. 15-20 for mechanix branded ones. The last pair of craftman's I had sucked, the index finger wore out with only a few hours of use, so I sent them to mechanix wear and they replaced them no questions asked. The nex wet they sent me had synthetic leather "caps" for the thumb and index finger and show no signs of wear.

I have been wearing these for the past few saturday's at work. We do all real mechanical work during the week and take care of brakes, tire work and oil changes on saturdays, and they are a life saver in the cold weather. Once I kill this pair of standard gloves Ill switch to my "pro's" and see how they hold up.

I am a diesel mechanic at a Peterbilt dealership and have nothing but good things to say about them, I've bought 3 pairs so far and will continue to buy them, their a lifesaver if your drilling for a very long time. Just be careful not to get grease on them, they don't do so well when they're soaked. But they do fit real well after a nice wash and dry on high heat.

Do they shrink at all?

Mine did a little when I put them through the wash/dry cycle.

I like them, I did some towing part time and they worked out great for that. Handling greasy chains in the cold is bad enough, and these held up well with every day use. I also used them in the shop usually in the early mornings when the heat was just coming on or when using the air hammer to change king pins on a rig. Then again, I'm a glove kind of guy from the very begining and my hands look it. My tech friends all give me business for being mr smooth hands.

Personally, I wouldn't mind the gloves shrinking a little... I find a tighter fits gives me more control.

No offense to anyone, but I find it humorous that 2 pages have been dedicated to purpose-built gloves that are used with an impact wrench.

I wash and dry my "Mechanix" brand gloves on average 1ce/week. - If they aren't overly dirty I just throw them in with my regular greasy work clothes.

I dry them in the dryer the first few washes to get them to shrink slightly and then I just hang dry them - they dry in a few hours.
